Aleppo airport in Syria has reportedly suffered an Israeli air strike for the second time in a week, according to Syrian authorities.
The attack, said to be carried out from the direction of the Mediterranean Sea, west of Latakia, targeted Aleppo International Airport and caused significant material damage, rendering the airport out of service, the Syrian defense ministry stated, as reported by Reuters news agency.
Remarkably, Aleppo airport had only recently returned to service after being hit on the previous Thursday, which Syrian officials also attributed to an Israeli strike. However, there has been no official comment from Israeli authorities regarding these incidents.
The previous Thursday, Syrian state media had reported that Israeli forces launched missile strikes on the country’s two main international airports in Damascus and Aleppo, effectively putting them out of action. Notably, these airports serve not only civil aviation but also host military bases. These bases are believed to be transit points for the transportation of Iranian arms to Hezbollah, a powerful militant group with a presence in both Syria and Lebanon.
