Lucifer Morningstar

Whenever I am down and blue, I always remember what my Ninang College Professor Sonia S. Roxas would often tell me – “go out; Read mind-boggling stories; Change your religion; Watch make-believe movies; go to the wilderness and shout to your heart’s content everything that make you sad”. Weird, isn’t it? But it helps.

Lately, I finished watching the 93 episodes over 6 seasons of the urban fantasy comedy-drama television series LUCIFER. Though it’s a mixture of biblical narratives and imaginary characters and events, I find it so amusing and amazing at the same time. I cringed. I laughed. I cried. It is not just an ordinary fantasy comedy-drama but a romance-action-musicale-cartoon series rolled into one. All the episodes were brilliantly written and well-executed by the actors specially Tom Ellis as Lucifer Morningstar and actress Lauren Christine German as Detective Chloe Decker.

Heaven and hell, angels and demons, and man’s freewill granted by God to mortals like us were discussed but only one important feature caught my attention from the start up to the end of the 93 episodes – LOVE. Yes, there is so much love shown in the series – love of friends, siblings, family, and love of strangers. Of all the love shown, I was mesmerized by the kind of love Lucifer and Chloe have for each other. Their love story is very much like the crux of the poem I recited to my hubby during my retirement from government service six years ago, the last two stanzas of which I am quoting here:

“When I go to heaven and you’re not there

I’ll wait for you at the Golden Stairs

If you’re not there on Judgment Day

I know you went the other way

So, I’ll return my Angel’s wings

My Golden Crown my everything

To prove to you my love is true

I will go to hell to be with you.”

Technically, this is how the story ended between Lucifer Morningstar and Detective Chloe Decker. It was a very beautiful, colorful and challenging love story – more challenging than the love story of Bella and Edward Cullins in Breaking Dawn; Peter Mellark and Katnis Everdeen in Hunger Games; and Frauline Maria and Capt. Von Trapp in Sound of Music.

You can watch the series on Netflix.  Don’t worry because it’s entertaining, not scary. After the 93 episodes, my faith remains intact and unscathed.

I was born to write and I believe that’s my calling.  I love writing because it brings me to the realm exclusively of mine. It is also my opinion that “immortality” can be achieved not by searching for the Holy Grail and drinking from it but by living your life worth-writing or writing something worth-reading.  Since I cannot promise you a life worth-writing, I keep myself busy writing something worth-reading.  I am thankful to God for giving me the talent and skill to see life in different perspectives not seen by many and the courage to share it to my readers. This first ever Tutubi Digital News Magazine is a perfect avenue to bring you the many facets of life that you can ponder upon in this time of the pandemic. Enjoy reading all the articles.
