Veteran Journalist, Rene M. Alviar, will begin to grace the pages of Tutubi News Magazine starting tomorrow, December 15, 2021. Share this news with those who have followed Rene’s columns throughout the years.
Renato M. Alviar, better known as Rene M. Alviar, began his storied career as a journalist in 1976 as a reporter for the Philippine News Agency (PNA) after graduating from Adamson University with an AB Economics degree. He quickly achieved Senior Reporter status while working at PNA until 1981.
Having a background in Economics, he became an excellent Business Reporter for the Manila Evening Post after leaving PNA. He saw a better opportunity at Bulletin Today and worked there from 1982 to 1988 then in 1989 worked for Malaya, also as a Business Reporter, through 1990.
Rene always wanted to be in the forefront of where the action is. Having worked as a Reporter, he missed the excitement that it brought. In order to get his blood pumping again, he became a correspondent for the Philippine Daily Inquirer where he was assigned to cover the Southern Tagalog Region. There he covered politics, law enforcement, and other areas that allowed him to cover a broader range of news items from 1990 to 1998. From 1998 to 2005, he worked for the Philippine Star also as a correspondent covering the same region and the same beat.
Having worked as a correspondent for nearly 15 years, Rene decided that he had enough excitement and needed to slow down. So, he worked as an assistant business editor for the Manila Standard Today from 2005 until he retired in 2008.
No sooner than the ink on the last article he wrote dried, Rene realized that he could not give up writing just yet. He went back to PNA where he began his career to work as a Senior Editor for another 10 years, from 2008 to 2018.
As fate would have it, you just can’t keep a good man down. After a three-year hiatus, the seasoned journalist, Rene M.Alviar, is back. He will write for Tutubi News Magazine on topics and issues of his own desire. We are happy to have Rene as part of our news team as he brings with him a lot of experience, insight and skills.
