The privileged speech of Sen. Loren Legarda in the Senate last week defending the CPP-NPA-NDF and asking for the review of the Anti-Terror Law because she did not sign it, draw negative reactions from netizens, vloggers and anti-terror groups. They were dismayed and saddened by the categorical statements of Legarda that she worked with these groups and believed in their cause. She proudly aired in the august hall of the Senate that “If we see and study what they actually believe and want, it is social justice. It is uplifting our people from poverty for decades without bearing arms.”
From her statements, it appears as if she is not aware of all the atrocities committed by the CPP-NPA-NDF which is highly impossible considering that she was also a journalist and a lawmaker. Besides, said groups were already declared terrorists by the United States, European Union, Canada, Australia and other countries. What enters her mind when she said they only want social justice and uplifting the people from poverty when they are burning government vehicles and heavy equipment, bombing government installations and killing mercilessly innocent civilians? Legarda must be out of her mind!
Had she shown her true color prior to election, or had she not joined the UNITEAM, she would not have won. Good I did not vote for her because I see her as a whimsical chameleon who changes color depending on her need. I still remember that day when she bragged about her being a Sampablenya because her alleged grandmother is a Cabrera. After the election, she vanished in the air. Then when she was campaigning in Batangas, she used the family name Leviste to garner votes from Batanguenos. During this last election, I heard her in one of the televised sorties of the Uniteam in Ilocos region that her yaya is an Ilocana whom she allegedly considers her second mother. Ang galing!
Legarda’s statement defending the enemies of the state is an affront to the sanity of the Filipino people and an outright insult to their intelligence. She is a public officer whose duty is to look after the welfare of the people and not to allow any terrorist group to destroy them. According to Eric Celis, a former NPA Cadre, the four documents mentioned by Legarda in her speech are CPP-NPA-NDF documents where it Is allegedly written therein their ultimate purpose to overthrow the government by armed struggle. Celis even joked in one of his radio programs that Legarda sounded very much like Jose Ma. Sison as if his spirit entered her body. I guess that’s what she learned from sleeping with the enemies.
At this point in time in our history as a nation, let us all be wary not to be cajoled by those pretending to be for the people. Let us pray for all peace-loving citizens, our AFP, the PNP to have the strength and courage to put an end to terrorism.
