BatStateU at PPSI, pararangalan si national scientist Dr. Gavino Trono

Batangas City. Punong-abala ang Batangas State University sa pamamagitan ng Verde Island Passage Center for Oceanographic Research and Aquatic Life Sciences (VIP CORALS) sa gaganaping 9th National Symposium and Scientific Meeting of the PPSI sa Nobyembre 12-13, 2021; sa pakikipagtulungan sa Philippine Phycological Society, Inc. (PPSI).

Layunin ng gaganaping pulong na magbigay pugay kay national scientist Dr. Gavino Trono Jr., isang Pilipinong biologist na binansagang  “Father of Kappaphycus farming” sa ika 90 kaarawan nito.

Si Trono ay pinagkalooban ng ranggo na “Father of Kappaphycus farming” dahil sa kanyang kontribusyon sa pag aaral ng tropical marine phycology na nakatuon sa seaweed diversity. Technical consultant siya sa  Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Aquaculture Seaweed Research and Development sa kasalukuyan at professor emeritus ng  University of the Philippines Marine Science Institute (UP MSI).

“The symposium will provide the ideal forum to stimulate ideas and establish collaborations as well as encourage and initiate discussions. As we journey towards our third decade in providing professional and scientific education, we aim to create a new engaging online experience with aspiring professionals by providing innovative insights and invaluable guidance and assistance from experts in the field of Phycology,” ayon kay Dr. Wilberto D. Monotillasa pangulo ng PPSI.

Dadalhin ng nakatakdang symposium ang temang “Phycology Under New Normal and Beyond” na tatampukan ng apat na international scientists bilang plenary speakers na sina Dr. Victoria Chraibi, Assistant Professor of Biological Science, Tarleton State University, USA; Dr. Roberta D’Archino, Marine Biologist – Coast and Oceans, National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA); Dr. Suzanne McGowan, Professor of Freshwater Science, Netherlands Institute of Ecology; at Dr. Joel Cuello, Professor of Biosystems Engineering, University of Arizona, USA.

Itatampok din ang oral and poster sessions mula sa sektor ng professional at estudyante na magtatanghal ng malawak na research findings na may kinalaman sa phycology, ayon kay PPSI President Dr. Wilberto D. Monotilla.
