MANILA. The remains of a Filipina migrant worker, Marvil Facturan, who was allegedly murdered by her husband in Slovenia, are set to be repatriated to the Philippines, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced on Sunday.
DFA Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega confirmed that the Philippine Embassy in Vienna, which has jurisdiction over Slovenia, is actively coordinating the repatriation efforts. The DFA is covering all costs for the repatriation.
According to Philippine Ambassador to Austria Evangelina Lourdes Arroyo-Bernas, the Slovenian authorities have been “very cooperative” throughout the process. The Philippine Honorary Consul in Bratislava has also played a crucial role in gathering information and ensuring smooth coordination.
Facturan was reportedly killed on December 29 while on vacation in Bled, Slovenia. Her husband, Mitja Kocjancic, has been accused of the crime, as stated in a release by the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) last Friday.
The CFO issued a heartfelt message, saying, “We extend our thoughts and prayers to Marvil’s family. We stand in solidarity with them, condemning acts of domestic violence, seeking justice for our kababayan, and honoring the beautiful life she lived.”
The tragic incident has drawn widespread condemnation and renewed calls to address domestic violence. The DFA assured the public of its commitment to assisting Facturan’s family during this difficult time while working closely with Slovenian authorities to seek justice for her death.
