RIZAL, Laguna — The Laguna intertown basketball tournament officially opened on June 3, 2026, bringing together youth teams from various municipalities under the 15-under and 25-under divisions as part of the province’s continuing grassroots sports development initiatives.
The opening ceremony was attended by representatives from the San Pablo City Sports Office, including Pamboy Lopez, Deputy City Administrator for Sports; Boya Tan, Executive Assistant; JL, Special Assistant for Sports; and sports office volunteers Anton Celestino and Elaine Macabuhay.
San Pablo City fielded its official delegation in the tournament, joining other local government units across Laguna in the province-wide competition aimed at developing young athletes and strengthening inter-town sports engagement.
During the opening program, Elishah Manicad was named Best Muse among 28 candidates, highlighting one of the ceremonial traditions associated with the tournament kickoff.
Organizers confirmed that the first official game is scheduled for June 13, 2026, featuring Sta. Rosa, Laguna, against Rizal, Laguna.
The intertown tournament is part of ongoing sports development programs in Laguna supported through local government initiatives that promote youth participation in athletics, discipline, and community-based competition.
The tournament is a program under Laguna Governor Aragones, aimed at strengthening sports development efforts across Laguna.
