The Social Security System (SSS) said its Pension Booster Program, also known as the Voluntary Provident Fund, generated an average return on investment (ROI) of 6.2 percent from January to May 2026, highlighting continued growth in members’ retirement savings despite changing economic conditions.

The SSS said the program remains a competitive option for Filipino workers who want to build additional funds for retirement, with returns continuing to exceed key market benchmarks even as interest rate movements affected investment performance.

Finance Secretary and Social Security Commission ex-officio Chair Frederick D. Go said the results reflect the government’s commitment to improving retirement security through responsible management of members’ contributions.

“The continued strong performance of the SSS Pension Booster underscores our commitment to protecting the financial future of Filipino workers. Through prudent management of members’ funds, we are helping build a more secure and dignified retirement for every Filipino,” Go said.

The latest performance follows the program’s 6.83 percent return in 2025, which surpassed the prevailing 91-day Treasury bill rate with a year-to-date average of approximately 4.77 percent, according to SSS data.

SSS attributed the slightly lower return in 2026 compared with the previous year to changes in interest rates implemented by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. However, the pension fund said the program continues to provide competitive earnings for members.

Member participation has also increased, with total Pension Booster contributions reaching P699 million in 2025, up 21.8 percent from P574 million in 2024. SSS said the increase reflects growing member confidence in the program as an additional retirement savings vehicle.

To help members maximize their earnings, SSS waived the one percent management fee on the total balance of Pension Booster accounts from 2025 to 2028. The waiver allows members to retain more of their investment gains.

SSS President and Chief Executive Officer Robert Joseph M. de Claro said the program demonstrates the value of disciplined saving and professional investment management.

“The strong performance of the Pension Booster demonstrates disciplined and professionally managed savings. We remain committed to providing members greater financial security during retirement,” de Claro said.

Members may now monitor the monthly compounding growth of their Pension Booster savings through their My.SSS accounts, allowing them to track their retirement funds and make more informed financial decisions.

The Pension Booster Program is open to all SSS members who want to increase their retirement savings. Members can start contributing with as little as P500, with no maximum contribution limit.

Under the program, members’ contributions are pooled and invested in government securities, corporate bonds, fixed-income instruments, equities, and money market instruments. Earnings are tax-free and credited proportionately to members’ accounts.

De Claro encouraged members to begin saving early and remain invested over a longer period to maximize the potential benefits of compound growth.

“Planning and saving for retirement should begin early. The longer the members stay invested, the greater their potential returns,” he said.

Interested SSS members may enroll in the Pension Booster Program online through their My.SSS account.
