QUEZON CITY, Philippines | 2 October 2026 | The Social Security System (SSS) is encouraging qualified members with at least 12 posted monthly contributions to use its new SSS Micro Loan Program, or SSS LoanLite, a digital facility offering short-term loans of up to ₱20,000.
SSS President and Chief Executive Officer Robert Joseph M. de Claro said the program is intended to give members faster access to short-term financial assistance for immediate personal needs. The facility offers loans from ₱1,000 to ₱20,000, with repayment periods of 15, 30, 60 or 90 days and an interest rate of 8% per annum, or about 0.67% per month.
The program is open to eligible employed, self-employed, voluntary and Overseas Filipino Worker members who are at least 18 years old when they apply and will be below 65 by the end of the loan term.
Applicants must have at least 12 posted monthly contributions, no past-due SSS short-term member loan, no active restructured loan and no pending or settled final benefit claim, subject to SSS rules on previously cancelled claims. They must also have an account enrolled in the online facility of a participating financial institution, no active SSS Micro Loan and no record of fraud against SSS.
The amount a member can borrow depends on contribution history and average Monthly Salary Credits (MSCs). Members with at least 12 contributions may qualify for a loan equivalent to 11% of their average MSCs during the preceding 12 months.
For example, a member with an average MSC of ₱20,000 and only 12 total contributions could qualify for ₱2,200, equivalent to 11% of the average MSC.
Members with at least 36 total contributions, including at least six contributions posted within the 12 months immediately before applying, may qualify for higher amounts, up to the ₱20,000 ceiling, depending on their average MSC. Members who have existing Salary, Calamity or Emergency Loans may still apply provided those loans are not past due and they have no active SSS Micro Loan.
At present, applications are available through the UnionDigital Bank mobile application. SSS said it is also working with Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. (RCBC), Land Bank of the Philippines and Union Bank of the Philippines to make LoanLite available through their respective digital platforms. SSS has identified these institutions as participating financial institutions for the program, with availability dependent on the readiness of their digital systems.
Repayment is primarily collected through an automatic debit arrangement from the account where the loan proceeds were credited. SSS allows renewal after the existing microloan has been fully paid and the payment has been reported by the participating financial institution. Its current LoanLite information page also lists other possible payment channels, depending on the participating institution.
LoanLite was first unveiled by SSS and UnionBank in September 2025 as a digital micro-lending initiative intended to provide members with quicker access to small loans without the employer certification normally required for conventional SSS short-term loans. UnionDigital Bank became the first participating institution to make the facility available through its mobile application in September 2026.
The new facility forms part of SSS efforts to expand digital financial services and provide additional short-term credit options to its members. SSS has described LoanLite as an alternative to high-cost informal lending, while keeping loan amounts relatively small and repayment periods short.
The SSS, which began operations on September 1, 1957, was established under Republic Act No. 1161, or the Social Security Act of 1954. Its mandate and coverage have since been expanded through succeeding laws, including Republic Act No. 11199, the Social Security Act of 2018, which strengthened the institution’s mandate and expanded social security coverage, including mandatory coverage of overseas Filipino workers.
As of July 2026, SSS reported 44.25 million covered members, including employed, self-employed, voluntary and OFW members, while serving more than one million active employers. The agency marked its 69th anniversary in September and is preparing to enter its 70th year of operations.
SSS advises members to check their eligibility through the participating financial institution’s official digital platform and to avoid unauthorized individuals or third parties offering to process LoanLite applications on their behalf.
