Army reservist-boxer Suarez, promoted dahil sa WBA award

Iginawad ng Philippine Army ang Meritorious Achievement Medal kay reservist Charly Suarez para sa pagkapanalo ng World Boxing Association (WBA) Asia super featherweight title noong nakaraang buwan.

Si Suarez, na dating may ranggo ng sarhento sa Army Reserve, ay na-promote din ng isang ranggo na mas mataas sa staff sergeant.

Siya ay kaanib sa 1303rd Community Defense Center ng Reserve Command, National Capital Region Regional Community Defense Group.

“Imbued with outstanding self-discipline, deep sense of responsibility and dedication to duty, Staff Sgt. Suarez demonstrated exemplary commitment to the performance of his duty as a reservist and a professional boxer who not only brought great pride to the Reserve Command, Philippine Army and the Philippine Army but to the Philippines as well,” ayon sa citation.

Si Suarez, na sumabak sa 2016 Rio Olympics sa Brazil at nanalo ng mga gintong medalya sa iba’t ibang kategorya ng boxing ng 2009, 2011 at 2019 na edisyon ng Southeast Asian Games, ay kinilala ng WBA Asia bilang Boxer of the Month noong Marso 2022.

Ang kanyang coach na si Army reservist 1st Lt. Delfin Boholst ay dumalo din sa awarding ceremony na ginanap noong Lunes.
