Tinanggihan ng NATO kahapon ang mga panawagan ng Ukraine na tulungan itong protektahan sila mula sa mga missile ng Russia at mga eroplanong pandigma sa pamamagitan ng pagdedeklara ng no fly zone sa himpapawid ng Ukraine.
Mariing pinuna ni Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy ang desisyon, at sinabing binigyan nito ang Russia ng green light na ipagpatuloy ang kampanyang pambobomba nito.
Sa isang mapait at emosyonal na pananalita, pinuna ng Pangulo ng Ukraine na si Volodymyr Zelensky ang NATO sa pagtanggi na magpataw ng no-fly zone sa himpapawid ng Ukraine, na sinasabing ganap na magpapakalas sa Russia habang pinalalakas nito ang pag-atake gamit ang mga warplanes.
“All the people who die from this day forward will also die because of you, because of your weakness, because of your lack of unity. The alliance has given the green light to the bombing of Ukrainian cities and villages by refusing to create a no-fly zone. You will not be able to pay us off with liters of fuel for the liters of our blood, shed for our common Europe,” ayon kay Zelensky.
Sinabi ng NATO kahapon na ang pagpapataw ng no-fly zone ay maaaring mag-udyok ng malawakang digmaan sa Europa laban sa nuclear-armed Russia.
“We are not part of this conflict,” ayon sa Secretary General ng NATO na si Jens Stoltenberg sa pagtanggi sa kahilingan ng Ukraine.
“We have a responsibility as NATO allies to prevent this war from escalating beyond Ukraine because that would be even more dangerous, more devastating and would cause even more human suffering,” ayon sa kanya sa isang pulong ng NATO sa Brussels.
