The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) has been included in the list of the worst airports in Asia due to prolonged waiting times for passengers in queues, according to a study conducted by a vacation rental management firm.
Casago conducted an analysis of passenger reviews regarding queuing times, which were rated on a scale of 1 star to 5 stars on airlinequality.com. The study only considered airports with 20 or more passenger reviews.
According to the findings, NAIA secured the 8th position among the 10 worst airports for waiting in the continent. Only 18.11% of passengers expressed high satisfaction with the queuing times at the airport.
NAIA has previously faced criticism, as certain surveys labeled it as one of the least favorable airports for business class travelers and among the most stressful ones in Asia.
In contrast, Kuwait International Airport received only 11.11% of reviews that achieved 4 to 5-star ratings, earning it the unfortunate distinction of being the worst in Asia in terms of waiting times.
Meanwhile, Singapore’s Changi International Airport is widely regarded as the world’s best in delivering a seamless experience to passengers. A remarkable 74.50% of travelers awarded it 4 to 5-star ratings on the travel website.
Casago mentioned, “Despite being one of the largest transportation hubs in Asia and consistently ranking as one of the busiest airports globally, Changi Airport has consistently earned the title of the ‘World’s Best Airport’ by Skytrax a dozen times. It has also been praised for its cleanliness, a point often highlighted in passenger reviews.”
CNN Philippines sought a comment from the Manila International Airport Authority.
Casago pointed out that the prolonged queues and waiting times in airports are a result of the continuous surge in air travel. They explained, “Following two years of lockdown restrictions, airlines and airports worldwide struggled to meet the post-pandemic demand of 2022, resulting in a significant influx of travelers and leading to delays and bottlenecks in the form of long queues.”
Furthermore, Casago advised passengers to check-in online, consider applying for TSA PreCheck, choose flights departing during off-peak times, and utilize priority lanes whenever possible to mitigate lengthy queues.
