Nangako ang Department of Education (DepEd), sa pakikipagtulungan sa Microsoft Corp. na isusulong ang inclusive at accessible na edukasyon para sa mga learners with disabilities (LWDs) sa pamamagitan ng paggamit ng teknolohiya.
Sa isang virtual na selebrasyon kahapon, sinimulan ng DepEd ang isang linggong pagdiriwang ng “Inclusion and Accessibility 2022” na may diin sa mga digital modalities na pinalaki upang itaguyod ang mga karapatan ng mga mag-aaral, kabilang ang mga may espesyal na pangangailangan, sa pantay na edukasyon.
“Learners with disabilities are part of society and have the same rights as other people to take their place in the society, their right shall not be perceived as welfare services of the state,” ayon kay DepEd Undersecretary for Curriculum and Instruction Diosdado San Antonio.
Binigyang-diin niya ang pangangailanga sa proactive commitment sa pagbibigay ng pantay na pag-access sa mas maraming pagkakataon, sa kabila ng iba’t ibang hamon.
“The reason why it may be so hard to fully advance implementation is that there is a much larger invisible part under the waterline, this invisible part is composed of the interests, beliefs, motivations, and fears of those involved in the education, teachers, and communities included,” ayon kay San Antonio.
Sinabi naman ni Microsoft-Philippines Public sector director Joanna Rodriguez na habang ang coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic ay nagdudulot ng hamon sa kampanya ng gobyerno para sa inclusivity, ilang mga digital breakthrough ang ipinakilala upang makatulong na isulong ito sa isang hybrid learning setup.
Binanggit ni Rodriguez ang mga feature na partikular na idinisenyo para sa kapakinabangan ng mga LWD, na maaaring magamit sa iba’t ibang device.
Kabilang dito ang immersive readers, dark mode (to reduce eye strain), PowerPoint live (allows access and sharing of contents), accessibility checker, dictate (use of voice to create documents, emails, presentations, and other content), designer (for polishing of document and work for document), reading progress on the artificial intelligence-powered free tool,, bukod sa iba pa.
“Microsoft’s assistive technologies and accessibility features built into Office 365 are available to anyone who needs tools for those with challenges in vision, hearing, neurodiversity, learning mobility, and even mental health,” dagdag pa niya.
