WASHINGTON. Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced his resignation as Chairman of the United States Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), marking the end of his brief but high-profile stint in public service.
The tech billionaire made the announcement through a post on the social media platform X earlier this morning. In his statement, Musk said his term as a special government employee had concluded and thanked U.S. President Donald Trump for the opportunity to contribute to a “major initiative to reduce unnecessary government expenditures.”
“I hope the DOGE department will continue to operate more effectively in the future and accomplish its goals,” Musk added.
The Department of Government Efficiency was established following President Trump’s assumption of office, with the primary aim of reforming federal operations and eliminating wasteful spending. Musk was appointed as the department’s first chairman, spearheading several cost-cutting initiatives during his tenure.
While the specifics of DOGE’s future leadership remain unconfirmed, political analysts say Musk’s departure could signal a shift in the department’s direction or strategy.
