Hamas has extended an invitation to Elon Musk to visit Gaza and observe the devastation caused by Israeli strikes on the Palestinian territory. This invitation follows Musk’s recent inspection of a kibbutz, Kfar Aza, alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which had been targeted by Hamas.

“We invite him to visit Gaza to see the extent of the massacres and destruction committed against the people of Gaza, in compliance with the standards of objectivity and credibility,” stated Osama Hamdan, a senior Hamas official, during a press conference in Beirut on Tuesday,

Musk’s appearance with the Israeli prime minister at Kfar Aza drew criticism from Israelis, especially considering his recent controversial tweets. On November 15, Musk endorsed a post that accused Jews of “hatred against whites” and the next day supported a post that said: “Everyone is allowed to be proud of their race, except for white people.” These retweets were not mentioned during Musk’s visit to Kfar Aza.

During his visit, Musk aligned his views with Netanyahu’s portrayal of the conflict, stating, “Those that are intent on murder must be neutralized. The propaganda must stop that is training people to be murderers in the future. And then, making Gaza prosperous. And if that happens, I think it will be a good future.”

Musk’s visit to Israel occurred during a pause in the Israeli military campaign to allow for the release of hostages by Hamas and the freeing of Palestinian prisoners by Israel. However, Netanyahu has pledged to resume operations once the temporary ceasefire concludes.

The death toll among people in Gaza, estimated by Hamas-run authorities, is reported to be more than 14,000. Hamdan called on US President Biden to review the US relationship with Israel and to stop supplying them with weapons.

While Biden has generally supported Israel, his administration has expressed unease at the high civilian death rate and called for Israel to change its tactics before extending the conflict into southern Gaza. The article was amended on November 29, 2023, to remove an incorrect description of Elon Musk as Tesla’s founder. Musk is included in the company’s list of co-founders.
