In a recent announcement, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has reappointed Teodoro Herbosa as the Health Secretary of the Philippines and named former Armed Forces chief Andres Centino as the Presidential Assistant for Maritime Concerns. These appointments come as part of a series of changes within the government.

The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) posted the list of new appointees on its Facebook page, confirming Herbosa’s reappointment and Centino’s new role.

However, it’s worth noting that Herbosa’s previous appointment faced a hurdle as the Commission on Appointments bypassed it on September 26, citing “lack of material time.” Senate President Miguel Zubiri, who chairs the commission, mentioned that Herbosa’s appointment would be revisited when they reconvene in November. Congress recently adjourned, and the session is scheduled to resume on November 6.

This development follows a year-long process for President Marcos Jr. to appoint a permanent Health Secretary, reflecting the importance of the role in the midst of ongoing health challenges.

In the case of Andres Centino, his new position as Presidential Assistant for Maritime Concerns comes with the “rank of secretary,” according to Malacañang. President Marcos had previously appointed Centino as the Presidential Adviser on the West Philippine Sea back in July.

Alongside Herbosa and Centino, several other individuals were named for key positions. These include Lorna Francisca Catris Cheng, Ma. Consejo Gengos-Ignalaga, and Raymond Joseph Javier as associate justices to the Court of Appeals. Henry Angeles was appointed as an associate justice to the Court of Tax Appeals, and Juliet Manalo-San Gaspar as an associate justice to the Sandiganbayan.

These appointments are expected to have significant implications for their respective roles and responsibilities within the Philippine government, and they will play a crucial part in shaping the nation’s policies and governance in their respective domains.
