Italian authorities have launched an investigation into Indian billionaire Vikas Oberoi following a fatal collision between his Lamborghini and a Ferrari during a supercar tour in Sardinia, resulting in the deaths of a Swiss couple.
The incident occurred in southern Sardinia on Monday while Vikas Oberoi was driving the Lamborghini, accompanied by his wife, Gayatri Joshi, a well-known model and actor. An official from the carabinieri confirmed the accident to Agence France-Presse.
Video footage captured from a car traveling behind the supercars, later published by local media, depicted the Lamborghini and the Ferrari as part of a convoy with several other high-performance vehicles. While several of these vehicles successfully overtook a van in front of them, the Lamborghini’s attempt resulted in a collision with the Ferrari behind it.
Tragically, the Ferrari crashed and subsequently caught fire, leading to the fatalities of the Swiss couple inside, both of whom were in their 60s, as reported by local media outlets. Fortunately, the Indian couple, Vikas Oberoi and Gayatri Joshi, sustained only minor injuries.
Italian authorities have named Vikas Oberoi as a suspect in their investigation, focusing on the possibility of a double road homicide, according to the carabinieri official.
Vikas Oberoi is known for his leadership of Oberoi Realty, a prominent company recognized for developing high-end suburban condominiums in Mumbai. As per Forbes’s real-time billionaires list, his net worth stands at $3.7 billion.
On the other hand, Gayatri Joshi is most notably recognized for her role in the 2004 Bollywood film “Swades,” in which she portrayed the love interest of megastar Shah Rukh Khan. The couple has been married since 2005 and has two children.

This alarming incident has heightened concerns over territorial disputes in the region, which could potentially escalate into a larger crisis.
On Friday, the Philippines strongly denounced the actions of the Chinese coast guard ship near Second Thomas Shoal, an area both nations claim and one that has witnessed frequent confrontations in recent times. During the incident, one other Philippine coast guard vessel found itself blocked and surrounded by Chinese coast guard and militia ships, resulting in an eight-hour standoff. The Philippines, as a treaty ally of the United States, raises the possibility that a major clash in these disputed waters could draw in U.S. support in defense of the Philippines.
Amid the turmoil, two smaller supply boats under the escort of the Philippine coast guard successfully breached the Chinese blockade, delivering essential supplies to a Filipino marine outpost located at the shoal.
Speaking at a briefing on Friday, Philippine coast guard spokesperson Commodore Jay Tarriela condemned the Chinese coast guard vessel’s behavior, citing violations of international law, particularly collision regulations. Tarriela described how a collision was narrowly avoided when one of the Philippine coast guard vessels, the BRP Sindangan, swiftly reversed its engines to prevent colliding with the Chinese coast guard ship, which had crossed its path at a distance of just one meter. He referred to it as “the closest dangerous maneuver” by a Chinese coast guard ship against a Philippine patrol ship.
The incident unfolded in the presence of several journalists, including those from The Associated Press, who were invited by the Philippine coast guard to document Chinese aggressive actions in the South China Sea.
At Second Thomas Shoal, a small contingent of Filipino marines and navy personnel have maintained a presence for years aboard the BRP Sierra Madre, a grounded but still commissioned warship. China has surrounded the Sierra Madre with its coast guard ships and militia vessels, aiming to prevent the Philippines from delivering construction materials that Beijing fears could be used to strengthen the Sierra Madre and transform it into a permanent territorial outpost.
Wednesday’s hostilities began early in the morning when a Chinese coast guard ship closely trailed the Philippine vessels en route to Second Thomas Shoal. A swarm of Chinese coast guard and militia ships, including at least one navy warship, subsequently emerged and formed a blockade in the high seas near the shoal.
A Chinese coast guard radio operator repeatedly asserted that “China has indisputable sovereignty” over Second Thomas Shoal and its surrounding waters, urging the Philippine vessels to leave to avoid miscalculations.
Filipino coast guard personnel responded by asserting Philippine rights to the area and their intent to proceed with the supply delivery.
The Chinese coast guard issued a statement on Wednesday night, claiming that the Philippine vessels entered the waters “without permission from the Chinese government” and alleging that China firmly opposes the Philippines’ transport of building materials to the “grounded” military boat. They stated that they had given a stern warning to the Philippine vessels and closely monitored the situation throughout the process.
This incident represents the latest flare-up in longstanding territorial disputes in the South China Sea, a critical global trade route. These disputes, involving China, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Brunei, have become a sensitive fault line in the broader U.S.-China rivalry in the region.
In August, a Chinese coast guard ship deployed a water cannon against one of two Philippine supply boats, preventing it from approaching Second Thomas Shoal. This act prompted outrage from Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and led to a strong protest from the Department of Foreign Affairs in Manila. In response, Washington reiterated its commitment to defend the Philippines as a treaty ally.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry accused the United States of “threatening China” by raising the possibility of invoking the U.S.-Philippine mutual defense treaty and repeatedly warned the U.S. not to interfere in regional territorial disputes.
In late August, the Philippines successfully deployed two boats, which managed to navigate past the Chinese coast guard blockade and complete the delivery of supplies to Filipino forces at Second Thomas Shoal. However, two Philippine coast guard ships escorting the supply boats were prevented by Chinese coast guard ships from approaching the shoal. A U.S. Navy surveillance aircraft provided support to the Philippine vessels during the standoff.
Philippine Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro expressed concerns over China’s dangerous actions at sea and stated that the government is prepared to respond to potential emergencies, including collisions between Chinese and Philippine ships in disputed waters.
China has consistently rejected a 2016 arbitration ruling, initiated by the Philippines under the 1982 U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea, which invalidated Beijing’s claims to nearly the entire South China Sea on historical grounds. China refused to participate in the arbitration, dismissed the ruling as illegitimate, and continues to defy its provisions.

Nadiskubre ang kontrabando na nagkakahalaga ng P2.2 bilyon sa loob ng isang cargo container na mula sa Mexico.
Ayon sa ulat ipinasok ito mula sa Mexico at dumating sa pantalan ng Maynila noong Enero 2023.
Natukoy ang shipment matapos na iwanan ang container van sa loob ng nakaraang 7 buwan dahil sa mga kwestyunableng mga dokumento.
Sa bisa ng Pre-Lodgment Control Order binuksan ng mga awtoridad ang shipment at nadiskubre nila ang shabu na kasama ng laminated beef jerky.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has suggested that the plane crash resulting in the death of Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of the Wagner private military company, was caused by an onboard explosion involving hand grenades and implied that drugs may have been a factor.
Prigozhin died in a plane crash on August 23, two months after a failed mutiny attempt led by Wagner mercenary troops, which temporarily took control of the southern city of Rostov and advanced toward Moscow. The crash also claimed the lives of two other top Wagner commanders, Prigozhin’s four bodyguards, and a crew of three.
During his first public comments on the crash, Putin stated that the plane had been blown up from the inside, citing reports from the head of Russia’s investigative committee. He dismissed reports from Western intelligence agencies suggesting that a bomb was responsible for the crash.
Putin did not provide details on how hand grenades could have detonated on board but suggested that alcohol and drugs might have played a role. He lamented the absence of examinations to determine the presence of these substances in the victims’ blood.
The Russian president mentioned that the Federal Security Service (FSB) had discovered a significant amount of cash and cocaine during a search of Prigozhin’s mansion following the failed rebellion. He described Russia’s dealings with Wagner as “clumsy” and highlighted that the group operated outside Russian law, citing a lack of regulatory legislation for private military companies in Russia.
Putin also revealed that several thousand soldiers from the Wagner group had signed contracts with the Russian Defense Ministry. This statement came shortly after he met with a former senior Wagner commander to discuss the group’s future after Prigozhin’s death.
In recent developments, Ukrainian officials reported that some former Wagner fighters had returned to the battlefield but were now integrated into the regular army rather than operating as a separate unit. The era of the COVID-19 vaccination card, once an indispensable pandemic document, has come to a close. The familiar white cards, a symbol of vaccination status, are gradually being phased out.
With COVID-19 vaccines no longer being distributed by the federal government, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has made the decision to halt the printing of new vaccination cards.
According to the latest available data from the CDC, the federal government shipped over 980 million of these cards from late 2020, when the first COVID-19 vaccines were rolled out, up to May 10.
Federal and local health officials anticipate that discontinuing the use of vaccination cards will not result in significant changes, as the days of carrying them in purses and wallets to gain entry into events, bars, and restaurants are largely in the past. For those who have retained their cards, they remain valid as proof of vaccination. However, individuals in need of their COVID-19 immunization records will now have to request them through the same process as any other vaccine record.
In many cases, the clinic, pharmacy, or health department that administered the vaccine can provide these records. Each state, along with some cities, maintains an immunization registry, although the rules regarding when records are included and the options for obtaining copies can vary widely. Records from mass vaccination sites established early in the pandemic should also be accessible through these registries, depending on state laws. Notably, there is no national registry for immunization records.
For instance, in Texas, patients’ written consent is required for inclusion in the registry, as stated by David Andres Alegria, a spokesman for the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District. In other regions, such as Wyoming and Philadelphia, vaccine providers are mandated to log all vaccinations in a city-specific record system.
Many states offer digital vaccination records to individuals, accessible online or through mobile apps. Users can save certificates or QR codes as proof of vaccination. Some websites even provide reminders for upcoming vaccinations.
Jeff Chorath, who manages the immunization information system in Washington state, emphasized the increased autonomy patients gained over their health records during the pandemic, particularly concerning immunization records. Washington state offers two digital options for obtaining vaccination records – one that provides a comprehensive list of all vaccinations recorded in the state database and another specific to COVID-19 vaccines.
However, not all states offer the same digital options, potentially leading to longer processing times for obtaining records. Gaps in state databases may also exist; for example, if individuals were vaccinated by a federal health provider, those records may be tracked in a separate system.
Regarding the old vaccination card – if you still possess it – consider keeping it like any other important health record, advised Heidi Gurov, a nurse consultant at the Wyoming Department of Health.
“It’s always good to keep those in a safe spot,” she stressed.

This is where teaching comes in – let us look at it holistically, not professionally for a moment – by all the elders for the children to be taught. Those reaching the ages of 25 and over, especially 35, 45, 55, and 65, play a big role in correcting the wrong habits of children. We cannot wait for the teachers alone to make the crucial corrections to them.

No less than the Department of Education – forget about the left-right spectrum – is also a source of trouble. Magturuan tayo, magpaturo tayo. Even to the uneducated. Even to the poorest of poor communities. We do not know their everyday accomplishments, but they are there. There is ethnomethodology in that. To overlook the practical accomplishments of their daily lives is to miss the opportunity in sense-making and, therefore, miss giving them what truly basic social services they need. If experience is the “best” teacher, we must acknowledge the fact that the wild and wide experience of the poor will teach us best only if we listen to and spend time with them. And since they are the best, we must not always relegate them to mere participants in our studies. Recruitment of the best participants will be our badge of honor because they suffer a lot, which means they are the best teachers to us.
