Arestado ang dalawang suspek na nang-rape ng 2 bata sa Cavite

Dasmariñas City, Cavite. Arestado ang dalawang lalaki na naging pangunahing suspek sa panggagahasa sa dalawang magkapatid na paslit noong Agosto 4 sa lungsod na ito sa isinagawang operasyon noong Martes ng gabi.

Kinilala ni Col. Christopher Olazo,direktor ng Cavite Provincial Police Office, ang dalawang suspek na sina Aljohn Iso, 22 anyos, at Mark Lester Gragasi alyas Hapon, 21 anyos na pawang mga construction worker.

Ang pag aresto ay naganap sa magkahiwalay na hot pursuit operation na isinagawa ng mga tracker teams ng pulisya sa Brgy. Pasong Camachile 2, General Trias City, at sa Brgy. Roque, Dasmariñas City.

Ayon kay Col. Olazo, “Nakilala namin ang dalawang suspek sa pamamagitan ng backtracking na imbestigasyon at pagsusuri sa mga nakuhang video footage mula sa mga close-circuit television camera na nakalagay sa lugar na malapit sa site ng krimen.”

Sinabi rin niya na kinilala ng mga saksi sa krimen ang dalawang suspek.

Ang dalawang batang biktima na 8 anyos at 4 anyos ay nasa mabuti ng kalagayan ngayon sa isang ospital sa Dasmariñas City. Naghain na ng kaso laban sa mga suspek ang 35 anyos na ina ng magkapatid.

Ang pagkahuli sa mga suspek ay resulta ng pabuya na P400,000 mula kina Dasmariñas Mayor Jenny Austria-Barzaga at Cong. Elpidio Frani Barzaga Jr. para sa makapagtutuo o makapagbibigay ng  impormasyon ukol sa kanilang mga suspek.

At least 36 killed on Maui as fires burn through Hawaii and thousands race to escape

WAILUKU, Hawaii. Thousands of Hawaii residents raced to escape their homes on Maui as wildfires swept across the island, causing widespread destruction and claiming the lives of at least 36 people. The fires have led to one of the deadliest wildfire incidents in recent U.S. history.

The fire caught the island off-guard, leaving charred vehicles on streets that were once bustling and reducing historic structures to smoking debris in Lahaina Town, a settlement dating back to the 1700s that had been a popular tourist destination. Firefighting crews have been engaged in battling blazes at multiple locations on the island. The intensity of the flames compelled both adults and children to seek refuge in the ocean.

According to a late Wednesday statement from Maui County, the death toll has reached 36, with no further details available at the moment. Earlier reports indicated that 271 structures were damaged or completely destroyed, and several individuals sustained injuries. For comparison, the devastating 2018 Camp Fire in California claimed the lives of at least 85 people and razed nearly 19,000 homes, businesses, and structures, virtually wiping out the town of Paradise.

Kamuela Kawaakoa and Iiulia Yasso, residents of Lahaina, recounted a harrowing escape from their smoke-filled surroundings on Tuesday. The couple and their 6-year-old son managed to return to their apartment briefly to gather essentials, witnessing the bushes around them catching fire. As Kawaakoa recounted at an evacuation shelter, they barely escaped the unfolding inferno, and their apartment’s fate remains uncertain.

Amid their escape, a senior center nearby was engulfed in flames. The couple dialed 911, but the fate of the people inside remained unknown. Downed utility poles and fellow evacuees slowed their progress as they fled the danger zone. Kawaakoa, who grew up in the Lahaina Surf apartment building, expressed his sense of helplessness as he watched his hometown succumb to the flames.

Maui County Mayor Richard Bissen Jr. addressed the unprecedented challenge the island is facing, stating, “We are grieving with each other during this inconsolable time.” He emphasized the unity of the community and their determination to rebuild with resilience and aloha.

As the fires continued to rage, tourists were advised to steer clear of the affected areas. Approximately 11,000 visitors left Maui on Wednesday, with an additional 1,500 expected to depart on Thursday, according to Ed Sniffen, the state’s transportation director. Preparations were underway to accommodate the displaced at the Hawaii Convention Center in Honolulu.

The fires were fueled by strong winds generated by Hurricane Dora, which was passing far to the south. This event adds to a series of disasters worldwide attributed to extreme weather, with experts pointing to climate change as a factor intensifying the frequency and severity of such incidents.

Hawaiian wildfires differ from those experienced in the U.S. West, often igniting in expansive grasslands on the islands’ dry sides and typically being smaller in scale compared to mainland fires. A significant fire on the Big Island in 2021 resulted in home destruction and widespread evacuations.

As the winds subsided somewhat on Maui, certain flights resumed, allowing pilots to survey the extent of the devastation. Aerial footage from Lahaina depicted numerous homes and businesses reduced to rubble, including the iconic Front Street where tourists once congregated. The aftermath revealed heaps of smoking debris, charred boats in the harbor, and the stark remains of trees consumed by the flames.

The power outage impacted approximately 14,500 customers in Maui early on Wednesday. Due to disrupted cell service and phone lines in certain areas, many struggled to establish contact with loved ones near the fire zones, leading some to turn to social media for communication.

Maj. Gen. Kenneth Hara of the Hawaii State Department of Defense conveyed efforts to restore communication, distribute water, and potentially deploy additional law enforcement personnel. National Guard helicopters contributed to fire suppression by dropping 150,000 gallons of water on the Maui fires.

The Coast Guard disclosed that they rescued 14 individuals who had jumped into the water to escape the encroaching flames and smoke, including two children. Among the injured were three individuals with critical burns who were transported to Oahu for medical treatment.

While investigations into the immediate cause of the fires had not yet commenced, officials pointed to the combination of dry conditions, low humidity, and high winds as contributing factors. Witness accounts, such as that of Mauro Farinelli, highlighted the rapid and devastating spread of the flames, fueled by strong winds.

President Joe Biden authorized the deployment of all available federal resources to aid in the response efforts. He expressed his solidarity with those affected and underscored the mobilization of the Hawaii National Guard to assist in fire suppression and search and rescue missions.

Former President Barack Obama, who has personal ties to Hawaii, shared his concern on social media, stating, “It’s tough to see some of the images coming out of a place that is so special to many.”

In addition to Maui, wildfires were reported on Hawaii’s Big Island, although no injuries or destroyed homes had been reported there. Acting Gov. Sylvia Luke issued an emergency proclamation on behalf of Gov. Josh Green, urging tourists to avoid the affected areas due to safety concerns.

Governor Green curtailed his trip and returned earlier than planned to oversee response efforts. Local resident Alan Dickar, who experienced the devastating effects firsthand, expressed his determination, saying, “Every significant thing I owned burned down today. I’ll be OK. I got out safely.”

Armed Utah man suspected of threatening President Joe Biden shot and killed by FBI during warrant service

PROVO, Utah. An armed individual from Utah, accused of making violent threats against President Joe Biden, was fatally shot by FBI agents just hours before the president’s scheduled landing in the state on Wednesday, according to authorities.

The incident occurred at 6:15 a.m. when FBI agents were attempting to serve a warrant at the residence of Craig Deleeuw Robertson in Provo, located to the south of Salt Lake City, as stated in an FBI press release.

Sources within law enforcement, speaking to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity due to the ongoing investigation, confirmed that Robertson was armed at the time of the shooting.

Robertson had recently posted online, indicating his awareness of President Biden’s visit to Utah. In the post, he mentioned preparing a camouflage suit and cleaning a “M24 sniper rifle,” following months of graphic online threats directed at various public figures. The suspect referred to himself as a “MAGA Trumper,” referencing former President Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan. He also posted threats against key law enforcement officials who were overseeing court cases related to Trump.

President Biden’s visit to Utah on Wednesday was for the purpose of discussing the PACT Act, which expanded veterans benefits, and to attend a reelection fundraiser. A White House official, requesting anonymity, confirmed that Biden had been briefed on the situation after the shooting.

Robertson’s online posts suggested that he possessed a long-range sniper rifle, several other weapons, and a “ghillie suit,” a type of camouflage gear, according to investigators’ court records. He faced three felony charges, including making threats against the president and against FBI agents involved in his investigation.

References to a “presidential assassination” were also found in Robertson’s posts, along with threats directed at Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland, and New York Attorney General Letitia James.

The FBI’s investigation began following a tip from the social media platform Truth Social in March, after Robertson’s alarming posts. His account on that platform, created by Donald Trump, has since been suspended.

Further details about the shooting have not yet been released, as the FBI is currently reviewing the incident. Law enforcement personnel were seen at Robertson’s residence in Provo, where the confrontation occurred, removing items and investigating the scene.

While some neighbors were aware of Robertson’s political views and his ownership of firearms, many expressed skepticism about his ability to carry out the threats he made. Robertson was described by those who knew him as a skilled woodworker and a familiar presence in the community.

As President Biden continues his trip to the Western United States, his visit to Utah follows a stop in New Mexico, where he addressed a factory focused on wind tower production.

BACOOR CITY, Cavite. Natagpuang putul-putol ang katawan ng isang engineer na pinatay tsinap-chop ng kanyang katiwala gamit ang samurai sa isang insidenteng naganap sa Brgy.  Habay 1, lungsod na ito.

Napag alaman na si Napoleon Fernandez, residente ng Brgy. Habay, Bacoor City at isang civil engineer na matagal ng nawawala, at kamakailan ay natagpuan ang kanyang putol putol na katawan sa isang masukal na lugar.

Ang suspek na si Romnick Missiona Bombeo, isang 30 anyos na construction worker at residente ng Brgy. Zapote, Las Piñas City ay stay-in caretaker ni Engr. Fernandez sa Brgy. Habay.

Sa ulat ng Bacoor City Police Station, isang kapatid ng biktima ang nagsumbong sa kanilang himpilan ukol sa pagkawala ng biktima simula pa noong Hulyo 7, 2023.

Matapos ang imbestigasyon, natunton ng mga awtoridad ang suspek na nasa bahay ng biktima sa Brgy. Zapote sa aktong aalis na at diumano ay magbabakasyon. Nakita sa kanyang bag ang nawawalang biktima ang halagang P4,926,100, mga alahas na tatlong gold bracelets, tatlong gold chains, isang gold ring at dalawang relo; dala­wang Samsung flip cell phones, mga wallet at iba’t ibang ID na pag-aari ng nawawalang bik­tima.

Nakuha din sa kanya ang samurai na ginamit nya sa pagpatay.

Nanlaban si Bombeo ng siya ay arestuhin ng mga pulis at kinagat pa ang isa sa kanila bago siya nahuli. 

Sa himpilan, umamin ang suspek sa pulisya na siya ang responsable sa pagpatay kay Fernandez gamit ang samurai at ayon sa kanya ay pinutol putol niya ang katawan ng biktima, isinilid sa sako at itinapon sa isang masukal na bakanteng lote.

Itinuro ng suspek ang lugar kung saan niya itinapon ang mga parte ng katawan ng biktima na natagpuan ng mga awtoridad sa isang bakanteng lote sa Barangay Habay 1, Bacoor City.

Ayon sa salaysay ng suspek, hindi siya pinabale ng sweldo ng biktima at diumano ay pinagalitan siya nito kung kaya at nagdilim ang kanyang paningin at napatay niya ang kanyang amo. 

Lumalabas sa imbestigasyon ang suspek ay nalulong sa illegal na droga.

Inaasahan ang pagbaba ng singil sa kuryente mula sa power distributor na Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) ngayong buwan ng Agosto.

Ang pagbaba ng demand sa gitna ng tag-ulan at mas mababang spot market prices ay nagdulot ng pagbaba sa singil sa kuryente para sa billing period ng Agosto na nagkakahalaga ng P0.2908 bawat kilowatt-hour (kWh).

Dahil dito, nabawasan ang kabuuang electricity rate para sa isang karaniwang tahanan mula sa P11.1899 per kWh noong Hulyo sa P10.8991 per kWh.

Sa pagbaba na ito, inaasahan na magkakaroon ng P58 na pagbawas sa kabuuang bill ng mga residential customers na may average na konsumo na 200 kWh kada buwan.

Ito ang pangalawang magkasunod na buwan ng pagbaba ng singil sa kuryente, na kaakibat ng pag-ulan at pagbaba ng temperatura sa bansa na nagdulot ng mas mababang pangangailangan sa kuryente.

Noong nakaraang buwan, muling tinapyasan ng power distributor ang electricity rate ng P0.7213 per kWh matapos bumaba ang pangangailangan sa kuryente, na siyang nagdulot ng mas mababang generation charges.

TOKYO. Nagasaki observed the 78th anniversary of the U.S. atomic bombing of the city on Wednesday, with the mayor urging world leaders to eliminate nuclear weapons, citing the fact that nuclear deterrence also amplifies the risks of nuclear conflict.

Shiro Suzuki delivered this message following the Group of Seven (G7) industrial nations’ adoption of a distinct document on nuclear disarmament in May, which advocated for the use of nuclear weapons as a means of deterrence.

“Now is the moment to exhibit courage and decide to liberate ourselves from reliance on nuclear deterrence,” expressed Nagasaki Mayor Shiro Suzuki in his peace declaration on Wednesday. “As long as nations are dependent on nuclear deterrence, a world devoid of nuclear weapons remains unattainable.”

The United States dropped the world’s inaugural atomic bomb on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, causing the destruction of the city and the loss of 140,000 lives. A second attack three days later on Nagasaki claimed an additional 70,000 lives. Japan surrendered on August 15, marking the end of World War II and nearly five decades of aggression in Asia.

At 11:02 a.m., the precise moment the bomb detonated above the southern Japanese city, participants at the ceremony held a minute of silence accompanied by the resonance of a peace bell.

Suzuki voiced concerns regarding the tragedy’s fading from memory as time passes. Survivors have expressed frustration over the sluggish pace of disarmament, while the gravity of the atomic bombings and the hardships they endured have not yet gained widespread awareness globally.

This concern arises in the wake of widespread reactions to social media posts about the “Barbenheimer” summer campaign linked to movies like “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer,” provoking outrage in Japan.

The juxtaposition of “Barbie” with a biography of J. Robert Oppenheimer, who contributed to the development of the atomic bomb, generated memes featuring mushroom clouds. This trend was seen as minimizing the horrific toll of the Nagasaki and Hiroshima bombings.

Suzuki, whose parents were hibakusha or survivors of the Nagasaki attack, emphasized that comprehending the reality of the atomic bombings forms the foundation for realizing a world without nuclear weapons. He asserted that survivors’ testimonials serve as a genuine deterrent against the use of nuclear weapons.

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, who did not attend the memorial event in person, acknowledged in his video message that the journey towards a nuclear-free world has become more challenging due to escalating tensions and conflicts, including Russia’s involvement in the Ukraine conflict. Moreover, a more profound division within the international community is affecting the disarmament movement.

Kishida, who represents Hiroshima in parliament, has aimed to highlight the G7’s dedication to nuclear disarmament. However, he has faced criticism from survivors for justifying nuclear arms possession for deterrence and refusing to endorse the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.

Suzuki called on Kishida’s administration and national lawmakers to promptly sign and ratify the treaty and to participate as observers in the upcoming meeting “to unequivocally demonstrate Japan’s commitment to abolishing nuclear weapons.”

As a U.S. ally, Japan falls under the U.S. nuclear umbrella and seeks enhanced protection as both allies intensify security cooperation to address threats emanating from China and North Korea’s nuclear and missile advancements. Under its new national security strategy, Kishida’s government is advocating for military expansion with a focus on strike capability.

As of March, the Health and Welfare Ministry reported that 113,649 survivors, with an average age of 85, have been certified as hibakusha and are eligible for government medical support. Many others, including those affected by the “black rain” that fell outside initially designated areas, remain without assistance

LUCENA CITY, Quezon. Nakumpiska sa isinagawang buy-bust operation ang humigit kumulang na walong milyong pisong halaga ng shabu kahapon ng madaling araw sa Brgy. Ibabang Dupay sa lungsod na ito, ayon sa ulat ni Quezon Provincial Police Office (PPO) Director, Police Colonel Ledon D. Monte.

Kinilala ang suspek na si Alibsar Macarangkat Macasari, 35 anyos na tubong Marawi City, Lanao Del Sur at naninirahan sa GMA, Quezon.

Ayon sa ulat ng Quezon PPO Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit, naaresto si Macasari 8matapos siyang magbenta ng isang sachet ng hinihinalang shabu sa isang operatiba na nagpanggap na buyer.

Sa pagka-aresto, nakuha sa kanya ang iba pang mga sachet ng ng shabu na may timbang na 400 gramo na may street value na Php 8,200,000.00.

Nasa pangangalaga ngayon ng Lucena City Police Station ang suspek habang inihahanda ang mga kaso laban sa kanya kaugnay ng paglabag sa RA 9165 o ang Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act.

Sa isang pahayag, tiniyak ni PCOL Monte ang patuloy na pagsisikap na puksain ang ilegal na droga sa lalawigan. “Ito ay bunga ng maigting na pagbabantay ng Quezon PPO upang mapigilan ang pagpasok ng ilegal na droga sa Quezon. Kasama din ang aktibong partisipasyon ng ating mga kababayan,” ayon kay Monte.

“Sinabi ng Panginoon sa mga Israelita, ‘Napopoot ako sa inyong mga pista; hindi ako nalulugod sa inyong ginagawang pagtitipon. Kaya kahit dalhan pa ninyo ako ng sari-saring handog, kahit pa ang pinakamabuting handog ay hindi ko tatanggapin. Tigilan na ninyo ang maingay ninyong awitan. Ayokong makinig sa tugtog ng inyong mga alpa. Sa halip, nais kong makita na pinaiiral ninyo ang katarungan at ang katuwiran na parang ilog na patuloy na umaagos.’” (Mga bahagi ng Amos 5)

Noon pa man, Diyos ang nagtitiis sa mga bansa sa paghihintay na magpakumbaba sa Kanyang harapan, hindi sa harapan ng mga kapwa tao, mga pinuno, at mga naghahari-harian. Hindi malayong maintindihan ito ng maka-Diyos na Pilipinas, at kung naiintindihan, dapat magpakumbaba ang mga mamamayang Pilipino na Siya lamang ang makapagsasalba sa kanilang kalagayang pisikal (at pangkaluluwa).

Halimbawa, bakit ipipilit magtiis sa baha kung talagang maayos ang paghawak ng pera sa pagawaing bayan? Ibig sabihin nito’y may matinong relokasyon, pabahay, siyentipikong pagtugon sa mga kalamidad, at iba pang sapat na serbisyo. Bakit ipipilit magtiis sa init at tagtuyot kung sapat ang daloy ng abot-kayang tubig, patubig, at kuryente?

Sa mga paaralan, inuuna ba nating pagkagastusan ang mga programang tunay na kailangan upang tuluyan nang makabasa ang mga bata at makaunawa sila ng kanilang mga binabasa? May mga resibo ba tayo ng gastusin? O isinuko na natin sa mga mapagkakatiwalaan nating pinuno? Marapat lamang na boluntaryo silang naglalantad ng mga pruweba ng gastusin sa pampublikong sektor ng edukasyon, ngunit baliktad pa ngayon ang nangyayari. Sasanayin pa tayo sa pondong “confidential” samantalang napakalinaw naman ng misyon ng edukasyon, mapa panahon ng pamamalakad ng DepEd, DECS, MECS, DECS, at DepEd ulit. Papaypayan mo pa nang husto ang mga natutulog sa mga mahahalagang pwestong pang-edukasyon, kalusugan, at agrikultura. Pag-aawayin mo ang mga bansa sa kanilang teritoryo at gagamit ka ng mga traydor na sa pag-akto bilang mga pinuno ay sarap na sarap gumastos sa perang hindi kanila. Simple lang naman: Kampihan ang Diyos na bukas sa lahat, makatarungan, at mapagpala. Kalimitan kasi sa pagdiskarte ng tao, batas din ng tao ang ginagamit para makausad sa pansariling interes habang nawawalan ng karakter ang tao at tila hindi na niya nararamdaman ang sakit (ng walang konsensya) bagamat tumatalab paunti-unti sa mga walang kamalay-malay na mga bata.

I’m done writing the saga of Palasig who to me was a great writer and a poet. I want to have it printed as a book for reference purposes in the future. Now I can write about anything like before.

Let’s start with the forthcoming SK Elections. For the longest time, I have yet to see SK officials and members doing something good and exemplary in their barangay. In the past, most of them if not all were often embroiled in petty crimes and in extreme cases, drug use. Some of them have developed the attitude of disturbing the peace in the community like shouting at midnight when drunk, starting trouble in barangay gatherings, making noise with their motorcycles and many other annoying activities.

SK must change for the better and not just run for the heck of it or for prestige or for the small power attached to it. They should erase the notion of many that SK has become the perfect breeding ground for corruption as seen in the past. They should refrain from doing activities that require expenses and asking donations from barrio folks like uniforms for basketball. Instead, they should initiate actions that would help their respective community like clean-up drive of canals and rivers, tree planting, or simply showing the youth that they practice good manners and right conduct (GMRC).

In the past, when SK had not yet been conceived by politicians, the YMCA and YWCA were actively doing good jobs of developing the skills and potentials of the young. They regularly conduct seminars and leadership training without expenses on the part of the youth and their parents. They sponsor summer camps for personality development of the young participants. They invite good speakers and achievers that will inspire them to be good citizens of the community.

During those days, money was not the motivational factor of teaching the youth but the sincere desire of leaders to see the youth grow and become useful citizens of this country. If they can do that in the past, with more reasons they can do it now considering the ease of communication and the availability of modern technology. The sad part is, we need to find true leaders who are willing to sacrifice personal interest for the welfare of others. Looking for such leaders nowadays is like finding Nemo in the depth of the Pacific Ocean.

Elon Musk considers surgery ahead of proposed ‘cage match’ with Mark Zuckerberg

NEW YORK. Elon Musk has mentioned the possibility of undergoing surgery before the proposed “cage match” with Mark Zuckerberg. The two tech billionaires had seemingly agreed to a face-to-face showdown in late June. While it remains uncertain if the physical fight will actually take place, Musk and Zuckerberg have continued to generate interest by exchanging online jabs at each other. Most recently, Musk announced on Sunday that the fight would be live-streamed on his social media site X, formerly known as Twitter.

Musk also stated that the proceeds from the fight would go to a charity for veterans. In response, Zuckerberg raised concerns about using a more reliable platform for fundraising. He expressed skepticism about the fight happening anytime soon.

Earlier on Sunday, Musk mentioned that he was training for the match by lifting weights. However, he revealed that the timing of the fight is still uncertain due to a scheduled MRI and the possibility of surgery.

“I’m getting an MRI of my neck & upper back tomorrow,” Musk wrote Sunday night. “May require surgery before the fight can happen. Will know this week.”

The talk of a physical fight began in June when Musk, who owns X, responded to a tweet about Meta preparing to release a new Twitter rival called Threads. He took a jab at Zuckerberg, expressing concern about the world becoming exclusively under Zuckerberg’s control. In response, a Twitter user jokingly warned Musk of Zuckerberg’s jiu-jitsu training.

“I’m up for a cage match if he is lol,” Musk wrote. After it appeared that Zuckerberg agreed to the idea, Musk proposed the Vegas Octagon.

Whether the cage match will actually occur in Las Vegas remains uncertain, as Musk has a history of tweeting about potential actions prematurely or without following through. Nevertheless, the banter between the two billionaires has captured attention, leading to a wave of memes and posts asking people to “choose your fighter.”

As of Monday morning, The Associated Press reached out to Meta, X, and the Ultimate Fighting Championship, which owns the Octagon, for statements on the matter.
