MAYNILA. Kinumpirma ng Department of Justice (DOJ) ang pag-aresto sa dating kongresista ng Negros Oriental at itinalagang terorista na si Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr., sa Dili, Timor Leste kahapon bandang alas-4:00 ng hapon habang naglalaro ng golf sa Top Golf Driving Range and Bar.
Si Teves, Jr. ay nahaharap sa multiple murder charges kaugnay ng pagpatay sa Gobernador ng Negros Oriental na si Roel Degamo at lima pang iba noong Marso 2023.
Ang pag-aresto kay Teves ay naging posible sa pamamagitan ng pagtutulungan ng mga ahensya ng batas, kasama ang International Police (INTERPOL) National Central Bureau (NCB) sa Dili, sa pakikipag-ugnayan sa mga awtoridad ng Timor Leste.
“Today’s apprehension of Teves is a testament to the power of international cooperation. It sends a clear message that no terrorist can evade justice and that nations stand united in safeguarding the safety and security of their citizens,” ayon kay Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin,“ ayon kay Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla.
“The capture of Teves only proves that through concerted efforts and determination, terrorism can be thwarted and peace preserved,” dagdag ni Remulla.
Si Teves, na siyang paksa ng Red Notice, ay nasa kustodiya ngayon ng Timorese Police habang ang kanyang pag-extradite sa Pilipinas ay kasalukuyang inaayos ng NCB-Dili sa pakikipagtulungan sa koponan mula sa NCB-Manila at Dili Philippine Embassy.
Hinimok ni Remulla si Teves na, “face your long-delayed trial without setting any conditions, face the courts squarely.”
“Rest assured that the DOJ remains committed to providing regular updates on Teves’ return to the Philippines,” ayon pa rin sa kalihim.
Pinasalamatan ni Remulla ang law enforcement team ng Pilipinas at ang mga international law enforcement partners na kasama sa pagsugpo sa kawalang-kaayusan para sa pagtataguyod ng kapayapaan.
