MAYNILA. Itinaas ng Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) nitong Biyernes, Hulyo 12, ang alerto sa La Niña dahil sa paglamig ng sea surface temperatures (SST) sa central at eastern Pacific Ocean.
Batay sa pagmamanman ng ahensya, may 70% tsansa na magsisimula ang phenomenon ng La Niña sa Agosto, Setyembre, o Oktubre at magpapatuloy hanggang sa unang quarter ng 2025.
“The country may experience a higher chance of increased convective activity and tropical cyclone occurrence which may bring above normal rainfall over some parts of the country in the coming months,” ayon sa PAGASA.
“Ang potensyal na maaapektuhan nito ay maaaring magdulot ng baha at pagguho ng lupa sa mga lugar na vulnerable, na may iba’t ibang saklaw,” dagdag pa ng ahensya.
Patuloy ang pagmo-monitor ng PAGASA sa kaganapang ito ng klima.
