Nagbitiw sa kanyang pwesto si Department of National Defense officer-in-charge Jose Faustino Jr., at itinalaga bilang bagong hepe ng defense si Presidential peace adviser Carlito Galvez Jr.
Ibinunyag ito ng Presidential Communications Office (PCO) nitong Lunes, at sinabing tinanggap ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ang pagbibitiw ni Faustino at inalok ang posisyon kay Galvez, na tinanggap ito.
“It is with deep regret that the President has accepted the resignation of DND OIC Sr. Usec. Jose Faustino Jr. The President has offered the position of DND Secretary to Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity Sec. Carlito Galvez Jr. and he has accepted,” ayon kay PCO officer-in-charge Cheloy Garafil sa isang statement.
Hindi pa nagbibigay ng impormasyon ang Malacañang kung bakit nagbitiw si Faustino.
Si Galvez, na nagsilbi bilang hepe ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) noong administrasyong Duterte, ay gumanap ng mahalagang papel sa pagwawakas sa limang buwang pagkubkob sa Marawi City noong 2017.
Hindi nagtagal pagkatapos niyang magretiro sa AFP, itinalaga ni dating Pangulong Duterte si Galvez bilang punong tagapagpatupad ng wala na ngayong National Task Force Against COVID-19 at kalaunan bilang vaccine czar.
