Patuloy pa rin ang mga talakayan sa posibleng oil at gas exploration sa West Philippine Sea sa pagitan ng Manila at Beijing, ayon kay Philippine Ambassador to China Jose Santiago Sta.Romana noong Sabado.
“Talks are still ongoing. This issue, of course, is not a simple one, there are complicated issues but some progress has been made,” ayon sa kanyan sa forum na binuo ng Philippine Association for Chinese Studies.
Bagama’t siya ay nananatiling optimistic na ang mga pag-uusap na ito ay mas magpapatuloy pa, inamin ng Filipino envoy na limitado na ang oras habang papalapit ang pambansang halalan.
“We know that the time is quite limited so the next administration could continue where this current administration left off. We remain optimistic that perhaps, the talks would produce a positive outcome,” dagdag niya.
Sinabi naman ni Chinese Ambassador Huang Xilian, sa kanyang bahagi, na masigasig pa rin ang Beijing na ituloy ang eksplorasyon ng langis sa Maynila.
“It is a consensus between our two leaders to handle the South China Sea issue in a consultative manner… We believe the joint exploration of oil and gas would bring benefits to both our people,” ayon sa kanya.
