SAN PABLO CITY – The Dalubhasaan ng Lungsod ng San Pablo (DLSP) athletes were honored in a testimonial dinner after earning a total of 35 medals in the 14th Local Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (LCUAA) National Games 2025 held in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan, from October 19 to 25.

The DLSP delegation secured 3 gold, 4 silver, and 28 bronze medals, placing 9th overall among 28 participating colleges and universities nationwide.

During the testimonial dinner, San Pablo City Mayor Najie Gapangada lauded the athletes for bringing pride to the city and announced a tenfold increase in the city’s sports budget for DLSP from ₱500,000 to ₱5 million to boost athletic programs and training facilities.

To reward their achievements, Mayor Gapangada distributed cash incentives: ₱10,000 for gold medalists, ₱5,000 for silver medalists, and ₱3,000 for bronze medalists. Non-medalists received ₱2,000 each, while staff members were granted ₱1,000 each as a gesture of appreciation.

The mayor reaffirmed his full support for San Pablo’s sports development, stressing that success in athletics can be life-changing for young people by teaching discipline, perseverance, and teamwork. “Sports do not only build champions, they build character,” he said.

The event was organized by the San Pablo City Sports and Youth Development Office, headed by Marlon Mangahas and assistant head Jose Leornado Perlas, in partnership with DLSP President Preciosa Villacruel and Athletic Director Dean Evan Jesusco.

Mangahas and Perlas both expressed their determination to bring San Pablo sports to new heights, emphasizing that the city has immense potential to produce top-tier athletes if given sustained support and modern training opportunities. They vowed to continue working closely with local schools and the city government to strengthen grassroots sports programs and nurture future champions.

“With the strong backing of the local government and the dedication of its sports leaders, San Pablo City is poised to become a center of athletic excellence and youth empowerment in Laguna and beyond,” Mangahas said.

The DLSP delegation secured 3 gold, 4 silver, and 28 bronze medals, placing 9th overall among 28 participating colleges and universities nationwide.
