Magsasagawa ng tatlong presidential at vice presidential debate ang Commission on Elections (Comelec) sa Pebrero at umaasa ito sa partisipasyon ng lahat ng kandidato para sa mga nabanggit na puwesto.
“We are preparing for the debate. We see high people’s interest in the opportunities where candidates will be facing each other and we would give them the opportunity to see that in a Comelec sanctioned event for everyone to attend,”ayon kay Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez sa isang virtual forum kahapon.
Tig-isang debate ang gaganapin para sa presidential at vice presidential bets na magsisimula sa susunod na buwan, ayon kay Jimenez.
“We expect high participation from candidates when we stage the debates. Please look for the debates in February, fourth week, then another in March and April. One debate a month to cover the entire campaign period. It will be back to back. Today, we hold the presidential debate, tomorrow, we will have the vice presidential debate. That’s three times. Participation in the media is open. At every debate, every media person will be invited. They can broadcast it on air, all at the same time,” ayon pa rin kay Jimenez.
Idinagdag ng spokesman ng poll body na para sa mga kandidatong hindi dadalo sa mga diskurso, ang podium na nakatalaga para sa kanya ay bakante.
“If a candidate refuses to attend, their podium will remain empty. So we will make a big deal of the fact that they’re not there. I guess for a campaigner that could be a huge motivation to actually attend. So we were pretty confident that they would attend,” ayon sa kanya.
Sinabi ni Jimenez na pinaplano ng poll body na isagawa ang mga debate sa Luzon, Visayas, at Mindanao.
