Where have all the ethical values of the many youths today gone? Are the people in charge of teaching them moral principles forgot to inculcate in their minds the importance of having a universal ethical standard acceptable to all mankind? I am asking this in reaction to the recent hullabaloo in New York City, USA created by a bunch of what appears to me to be Fil-Am activists/leftist putting the Philippines to shame in the international community. Just like here every non-working holiday their counterparts were screaming like crazy “Never Again, Never Again to Martial Law” and “Pasista, Diktador, Tuta!” – same old nauseating chants we heard more than fifty years ago.
From the way I look at them, it seems they do not really know what they are talking about and were merely acting under the baton of somebody else. They professed hating fascist but they seem to enjoy staying in the country known to be the greatest advocate of fascism, imperialism and all the known bad isms in the dictionary. They abhor being “Tuta” but look at how they repeatedly chant in unison slanderous language against the Philippine government like electronic-operated robots. They are asking for the observance of human rights but they are the ones lacking respect for the rights of others. How ironic!
There is really an urgent need for the Department of Education to revisit and change, if necessary, the school curriculum – a program that will give a premium to Good Manners and Right Conduct (GMRC), moral values formation and patriotism. The mandatory ROTC must be pushed through to produce strong and well-disciplined leaders in the future and not left-leaning hoodlums who would destroy lives and properties of innocent civilians. Future terrorism and unwarranted extremism must be fought to the hilt by educating our learners at an early age.
I commiserate with the parents of young students who were recruited by the CPP-NPA-NDF and ended up biting the dust in some forgotten places in the mountain. It is regrettable to see on the news the many young lives wasted for naught. They could have been productive members of society had they not been conscripted by terror groups whose aim is to overthrow the government. I empathize with the Indigenous people who were used as pawns by terror groups against the duly constituted authorities in a war they will never win.
Just lately, some high-ranking Cadres and urban operatives of the CPP-NPA-NDF surrendered to the government after realizing the many years of useless fighting against their fellowmen. The student activists who are new recruits must hear their stories so they can be guided accordingly. Voicing sentiments and rallies are not bad per se but it should be done in a manner not prejudicial to the rights of others like what the bunch of leftists did in New York City.
