Itinalaga ni Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, Gen. Dionardo Carlos, si Lt. Gen. Rhodel Sermonia bilang bagong Joint Task Force (JTF) Covid-19 Shield commander.
“Effective Wednesday, March 2, Lt. Gen. Sermonia is designated as the (PNP) deputy chief for operations and concurrent Task Force commander of the enforcement arm of the national government in the implementation of quarantine rules and health protocols,” ayon kay Carlos kahapon.
Si Sermoniaay pumalit kay Lt. Gen. Israel Ephraim Dickson, na na-promote bilang PNP deputy chief for administration, ang pangalawang in command ng PNP.
“As the new commander of this Task Force, I expect Lt. Gen. Sermonia will continue the plans and programs of the previous commander and enforce minimum health protocols for us to fully mitigate the deadly virus,” dagdag pa ni Carlos.
Ang JTF Covid-19 Shield ay binubuo ng mga miyembro ng PNP, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine Coast Guard, at Bureau of Fire Protection.
Sa pag-unlad nito, sinabi ng PNP na pinaigting nito ang pagsubaybay sa mga aktibidad na panlipunang galaw ng mga tao sa mga pampublikong lugar na nasa Alert Level 1 na.
Sinabi ni Carlos na ang unang araw ng pagpapatupad sa mga lugar na nasa ilalim ng alert level 1 ay karaniwang mapayapa, na walang naiulat na hindi kanais-nais na insidente.
Ang mga unit commander sa mga lugar na nasa ilalim ng Alert Level 1 ay nagpapatupad ng mga protocol sa pakikipag-ugnayan sa kani-kanilang local government units (LGUs).
Ang mga quarantine control point na itinatag sa ilalim ng mas mataas na antas ng alerto ay maaaring i-convert sa mga checkpoint sa pagpapatupad ng batas o mga checkpoint ng Commission on Elections (Comelec) sa tamang pakikipag-ugnayan sa lokal na Inter-Agency Task Force.
Samantala, nasa 6,766 PNP personnel ang naka-deploy sa quarantine control points sa buong bansa.
Kasabay ito ng Comelec-PNP-Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) checkpoints na ginagawa ngayong election period.
Naobserbahan din ng PNP ang mas mabigat na daloy ng trapiko sa mga lugar na nasa ilalim ng Alert Level 1 kung saan mas maraming pribadong sasakyan ang lumalabas sa mga lansangan at pinapayagan na ang pampublikong sasakyan na magsakay ng mga pasahero sa buong kapasidad.
“We are coordinating with the different government agencies and offices to better monitor the traffic flow and assist in the enforcement of traffic rules,” ang pagtatapos ni Carlos.
