PARIS. The Palais Omnisports was the place to be on the second day of the Paris Olympics. All eyes were on Simone Biles, the most decorated gymnast in history, and the event drew a star-studded crowd eager to catch her Olympic return and mingle with celebrities.
Among the high-profile attendees were Hollywood star Tom Cruise and Oscar-winning actress Jessica Chastain, who were spotted under the packed roof of the Bercy Arena on Sunday. Lady Gaga, who had delivered a dazzling performance during the opening ceremony, was also in attendance. She shared a video of Biles’ beam routine on her Instagram, captioned: “She nailed it, what an honor to be so close!”
Snoop Dogg enjoyed front-row seats and was seen dancing during the team presentations, while Greta Gerwig, Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, John Legend, Chrissy Teigen, Nick Jonas, and Anna Wintour were also present. Snoop Dogg was in a lively mood, and Cruise was surrounded by fans, happily agreeing to selfies and shaking hands.
Biles competed in the team’s qualifying event alongside U.S. teammates Jordan Chiles, Hezly Rivera, Sunisa Lee, and Jade Carey. This was her first competitive appearance in Paris, where she aimed to add to her impressive tally of seven Olympic medals. Despite some discomfort in her left leg, Biles posted an all-around total of 59.566, helping the American team score 172.296, well ahead of the competition.
Also in attendance were USA snowboarder Shaun White and his girlfriend Nina Dobrev. Athletes across various Olympic sports expressed their desire to see the most decorated gymnast of all time, as this might be her final competition in an unparalleled career. Among them were LeBron James and the U.S. men’s basketball team, which was busy with Olympic qualifying events on Sunday.
