SEOUL, South Korea. Song Jae-lim, a beloved South Korean actor known for his roles in the K-dramas Moon Embracing the Sun and Queen Woo, has been found dead in his Seoul residence. He was 39.
According to a report from Yonhap News Agency, Song’s body was discovered on Tuesday by a friend who had come over for lunch. While no cause of death has been released, police officials from Seoul’s Seongdong District confirmed that no signs of foul play were found at the scene. Yonhap also reported that a note was discovered at Song’s home, although further details have not been disclosed by the authorities.
Song Jae-lim made his acting debut in 2009 with the film Actresses but achieved widespread fame after portraying a royal guard in the 2012 hit drama Moon Embracing the Sun. The fantasy romance, centered around a Korean king and a female shaman, captivated audiences across South Korea and internationally, marking a significant turning point in Song’s career.
In 2014, Song gained further popularity through his appearance on the celebrity reality show We Got Married, where he was paired with actress Kim So-eun. His unique chemistry with Kim won him a new wave of fans. This year, he took on a supporting role in the streaming drama Queen Woo, a historical fantasy series exploring violent power struggles among royals in an ancient kingdom.
Fans and colleagues expressed shock and sadness over Song’s untimely death, with many taking to social media to pay tribute to his legacy in the Korean entertainment industry.
