Poetic justice at its best

In this big wide world, there is this type of cosmic justice that tells us people are fated to get what they deserve – good or bad.  In the language of an ordinary person, we simply reap what we sow. Using the local parlance, “kung ano ang itinanim, siyang aanihin.” This is a reminder to everyone to live your best life so you can reap future rewards. Remember, “what goes around comes around.” Some people call it karma and “see it as a way of making life fair, at least in the end.”

Look at what happened to the defeated Vice-Presidential candidate Walden Bello. Because of his unsavory remarks and unpleasant display of arrogance, he is now facing a criminal prosecution for cyber libel. The same happened to Maria Ressa of the defunct Rappler whose conviction by the lower court was affirmed by the Court of Appeals and is now under review by the Supreme Court. Borrowing a quote from Leonardo Da Vinci, they seem not to “realize that everything connects to everything else.” That the universe does not carry debts.  It always returns back to you what you gave it.

Because of this karmic law, I am not surprised to hear that a certain fellow in the City Capitol of San Pablo is now the subject of nasty speculations about his sudden change of lifestyle – from the style of an ordinary guy to that of the rich and the famous. I heard he is maintaining a suite in a certain “palace” where he entertains his “friends”.  A very reliable source also told me that he throws away large amounts of money in the “Color Game” as if it is the normal thing to do. “Parang wala lang” according to my source. He is excessively proud, moving around the capitol site and talking arrogantly to fellow government workers as if he owns the city.

Then the universe’s karmic force made a way to put a stop to his unpleasant behavior.  One day, his Big Boss stopped in a gas station in the city for a refill as he had to attend to an official business somewhere.  The Boss was shocked, as in shock to the max when the cashier refused to charge his gasoline to the local government because the purchase order was not signed by this guy described above.  Imagine the embarrassment suffered by the Big Boss who can do nothing but pay. So, what do you think happened next?  I’m leaving it to you to speculate.

Justice never comes late.  It always comes in God’s perfect time.  What this proud and haughty guy did was so disrespectful of his Boss who happened to be the Chief Local Executive. Respect begets respect and in the language of our Vice President, “a civilized and democratic society does not respect hubris.”

I was born to write and I believe that’s my calling.  I love writing because it brings me to the realm exclusively of mine. It is also my opinion that “immortality” can be achieved not by searching for the Holy Grail and drinking from it but by living your life worth-writing or writing something worth-reading.  Since I cannot promise you a life worth-writing, I keep myself busy writing something worth-reading.  I am thankful to God for giving me the talent and skill to see life in different perspectives not seen by many and the courage to share it to my readers. This first ever Tutubi Digital News Magazine is a perfect avenue to bring you the many facets of life that you can ponder upon in this time of the pandemic. Enjoy reading all the articles.
