CAIRO. At least 30 Palestinians were killed in separate Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip on Sunday, including a senior official of the territory’s civil emergency service and a local journalist, according to health authorities in Gaza.

Medical sources said the attacks occurred in multiple areas, Khan Younis in the south, Jabalia in the north, and Nuseirat in central Gaza, marking another deadly day in the ongoing Israeli military campaign.

Among those killed was Hassan Majdi Abu Warda, a local journalist in Jabalia, along with several members of his family, after an airstrike struck his home early Sunday. Abu Warda’s death brings the number of journalists killed in Gaza since October 2023 to 220, according to the Hamas-run Gaza government media office.

In another airstrike in Nuseirat, Ashraf Abu Nar, a senior official in the territory’s civil emergency services, and his wife were killed in their residence, medics reported.

The Israeli military did not comment on the specific airstrikes in its latest public statement, but confirmed that its Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir visited troops stationed in Khan Younis on Sunday. Addressing soldiers, Zamir stated: “This is not an endless war” and claimed that Hamas had lost most of its assets, including its command and control systems.
“We will deploy every tool at our disposal to bring the hostages home, dismantle Hamas and dismantle its rule,” he added.

Later that day, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) confirmed in a statement that two of its staff members — Ibrahim Eid and Ahmad Abu Hilal, were killed in a strike on a house in Khan Younis on Saturday.

“Their killing points to the intolerable civilian death toll in Gaza. The ICRC reiterates its urgent call for a ceasefire and for the respect and protection of civilians, including medical, humanitarian relief, and civil defence personnel,” the organization stated.

In a separate statement, the Gaza media office said that Israeli forces were now in control of approximately 77% of the Gaza Strip, whether by ground operations or through evacuation orders and sustained bombardments that have forced residents from their homes.

Meanwhile, the armed wings of Hamas and Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for multiple attacks against Israeli forces using bombs and anti-tank rockets across various areas of Gaza.

On Friday, the Israeli military said it had conducted overnight strikes targeting 75 locations, including weapons storage sites and rocket launchers.

The war began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas militants launched a cross-border attack that killed 1,200 people, according to Israeli authorities, and abducted 251 hostages into Gaza. In response, Israel launched a large-scale air and ground assault on the coastal enclave.

According to Gaza’s health ministry, more than 53,900 Palestinians have since been killed, with widespread devastation across the region. Humanitarian organizations continue to report alarming levels of malnutrition and deteriorating health conditions among the civilian population.
