BEVERLY HILLS, California — Hollywood’s most acclaimed actors and filmmakers are set to compete for top honours this Sunday at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards. This marquee event traditionally heralds the start of the film industry’s annual awards season.
Leading the nominations is Leonardo DiCaprio’s dark comedy One Battle After Another, which explores the trials of a former revolutionary striving to protect his daughter. The film not only dominates the race for Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy but also boasts multiple acting nods for its ensemble cast, including Benicio del Toro, Teyana Taylor, Chase Infiniti, and Sean Penn.
In the Best Drama category, the lineup features compelling contenders such as Jay Kelly starring George Clooney and Adam Sandler — Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, supernatural horror Sinners, and the Shakespeare-inspired Hamnet.
Performers up for individual honours include Timothée Chalamet, Dwayne Johnson (“The Smashing Machine”), Michael B. Jordan (Sinners), Jessie Buckley (Hamnet), and dual nominees Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo for the musical sequel Wicked: For Good.
Comedian Nikki Glaser returns as host for a second consecutive year, bringing her signature humor to the Beverly Hilton stage. The ceremony will air live on CBS and stream on Paramount+, reaching a global audience.
A notable addition to this year’s lineup is a podcast category, marking the first time the Globes will honour achievements in the audio storytelling medium. Nominees include popular shows such as Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard and Call Her Daddy.
The expanded Golden Globe voter base, comprising more than 300 entertainment journalists, also spotlighted international cinema, with films from Norway, Iran, and Brazil making the shortlist. On television, HBO’s The White Lotus leads the nomination count ahead of Netflix’s Adolescence.
Though the Golden Globes do not directly determine the Academy Awards outcomes, success in Beverly Hills can elevate contenders’ profiles as the industry moves toward Oscar voting later this season.
