Engkwentro sa Cavite: 3 barangay tanod patay sa pamamaril

0

CAINTA, Rizal.

Russia confirms death of Wagner group leader Prigozhin in plane crash

0

MOSCOW. Russian authorities have officially confirmed the demise of Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of the Wagner Group, laying to rest uncertainties surrounding his presence on a plane that crashed last Wednesday, resulting in the tragic loss of all passengers aboard.

The Russian Investigative Committee’s spokesperson, Svetlana Petrenko, stated that genetic testing conducted on the ten recovered bodies from the crash site aligned with the flight manifest. The list of passengers included Prigozhin and some of his top associates, as indicated by Russia’s civil aviation authority.

The investigative team has yet to disclose the probable cause behind the sudden plummet of the business jet, which occurred halfway between Moscow and St. Petersburg, Prigozhin’s hometown.

The timing of the crash, however, led to suspicions of a potential orchestrated attack by the Kremlin. Given Prigozhin’s enigmatic background, speculations arose that he might have evaded the crash or even escaped death.

Approximately two months ago, Prigozhin, aged 62, led a day-long mutiny against Russia’s military, guiding his mercenaries from Ukraine towards Moscow. In response, Russian President Vladimir Putin denounced the act as “treason” and promised consequences for those involved.

Instead, the Kremlin swiftly negotiated with Prigozhin to quell the armed uprising, granting him immunity from prosecution and allowing him to relocate to Belarus. The question lingered whether this former ally of Putin would face repercussions for the brief insurrection, the most significant challenge to Putin’s authority during his 23-year rule.

A preliminary U.S. intelligence assessment concluded that a deliberate explosion was responsible for the plane’s crash. As suspicions grew that Putin orchestrated an assassination, the Kremlin vehemently denied these claims as baseless.

An official from the Western side, describing the initial assessment, indicated that Prigozhin was “highly likely” targeted and that an explosion would align with Putin’s “consistent record of silencing critics.”

Prigozhin’s second-in-command, Dmitry Utkin, along with Wagner’s logistics mastermind Valery Chekalov, also perished in the crash. Utkin was often linked to the founding of Wagner and was closely associated with the group.

The future of Wagner, previously a prominent participant in Russia’s military endeavors in Ukraine, as well as various African and Middle Eastern countries, now remains uncertain.

After the mutiny, the Kremlin announced that Prigozhin would be exiled in Belarus, offering his fighters three choices: to accompany him, retire, or join Russia’s regular army and return to Ukraine where Wagner mercenaries had operated alongside Russian forces.

A significant number of Wagner mercenaries opted to relocate to Belarus, where a camp was established southeast of the capital, Minsk.

Enlisting drones and webcams: Volunteers embark on a fresh quest for the legendary Loch Ness Monster

0

LONDON. Using drones and webcams, a group of volunteer investigators has joined a fresh search for the legendary Loch Ness Monster in Scotland. The Loch Ness Center revealed that researchers planned to employ thermal-imaging drones, infrared cameras, and a hydrophone to detect underwater sounds in the lake’s murky depths, aiming to find evidence of Nessie. This two-day endeavor is being promoted as the most extensive lake survey in half a century, with participants from around the globe remotely observing the waters through webcams.

Alan McKenna, representing the Loch Ness Center, expressed the desire to “ignite the enthusiasm of a new generation of Loch Ness enthusiasts.” In an interview with BBC radio, McKenna explained that the team was scouting for any disturbances on the lake’s surface and urging volunteers to document various natural behaviors in the vicinity of the Loch.

He emphasized, “Not every ripple or wave indicates a creature. Some can be explained, but there are a few that cannot.” The Loch Ness Center operates from the former Drumnadrochit Hotel, the place where the modern-day legend of Nessie emerged. In 1933, the hotel’s manager, Aldie Mackay, claimed to have seen a “water beast” in the lake, which is the largest freshwater body in the UK by volume and one of the deepest at up to 750 feet (230 meters).

This report sparked a global fascination with the elusive monster, resulting in hoaxes and numerous eyewitness testimonies. Various theories have arisen over time, suggesting the creature could be a prehistoric marine reptile, oversized eels, a sturgeon, or even an escaped circus elephant. While some dismiss the sightings as tricks or explainable phenomena like floating logs or strong winds, the legend remains a tourism draw for the scenic Scottish Highlands.

Despite skepticism, volunteers like Craig Gallifrey remain committed to the quest. “I do believe there’s something in the lake,” he noted, while remaining open-minded about its nature. Gallifrey acknowledged that regardless of the outcome of the weekend search, the legend will persist. He speculated, “I think it’s the idea of something residing in the UK’s largest body of water… There are plenty more stories. There’s an aura about the lake that’s still very special.”

Olazo, Cavite PPO, PIU, CPPO, Dasmariñas Chief of Police Col. Socrates Jaca, at PDEA Cavite.

Mayor sa Batangas abswelto sa kasong illegal possession of firearms and explosives

0

MABINI, Batangas.

Multinational astronaut team blasts off to the International Space Station

0

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. In a spectacular display of international collaboration, a quartet of astronauts representing four nations embarked on a journey toward the International Space Station on Saturday.

Anticipated to dock with the orbiting laboratory in their SpaceX capsule on Sunday, these astronauts are set to replace their counterparts who have been inhabiting the station since March.

Amid a predawn liftoff from Kennedy Space Center, a NASA astronaut was accompanied by spacefarers hailing from Denmark, Japan, and Russia. A heartening moment ensued as they grasped each other’s gloved hands upon entering orbit.

This mission marked a historic U.S. launch, as every seat in the spacecraft was occupied by an astronaut from a distinct country. Previously, NASA had included its own crew members on SpaceX taxi flights, but due to a unique sequence of events, this launch featured a fully international crew.

As the crew soared into the skies, NASA’s Jasmin Moghbeli conveyed from orbit, “We’re a united team with a common mission.” NASA’s Ken Bowersox, the chief of space operations, chimed in, “Boy, what a beautiful launch … and with four international crew members, really an exciting thing to see.”

Leading the six-month endeavor is Moghbeli, a Marine pilot, joined by the European Space Agency’s Andreas Mogensen, Japan’s Satoshi Furukawa, and Russia’s Konstantin Borisov.

“To explore space, we need to do it together,” emphasized the European Space Agency’s director general, Josef Aschbacher, just minutes before liftoff. He stressed the global nature of space exploration and the pivotal role international cooperation plays.

The pathways these astronauts took to reach space are as diverse as their origins. Moghbeli’s parents fled Iran during the 1979 revolution, and she grew up in Germany and New York before becoming a Marine pilot. Mogensen initially worked on oil rigs off West Africa, foreseeing a need for space drilling akin to Bruce Willis’ role in the movie “Armageddon.” Furukawa was a surgeon before becoming an astronaut, and Borisov, a newcomer to space, transitioned from business to engineering and now operates a freediving school in Moscow.

An appealing perk of this international venture is the array of foods on board, ranging from Persian herbed stew to Danish chocolate and Japanese mackerel.

As a bonus sight for the early-morning spectators, SpaceX’s first-stage booster returned to Cape Canaveral moments after liftoff.

The launch was postponed by a day to review data regarding valves in the capsule’s life-support system. On the day of liftoff, a minor fuel leak emerged in the capsule’s thruster system, nearly halting the countdown. SpaceX engineers determined the leak posed no threat with just minutes to spare.

In mid-September, NASA will send another astronaut to the station from Kazakhstan in exchange for two Russian cosmonauts. With eight crew launches for NASA under its belt, SpaceX continues to demonstrate its capabilities. In contrast, although Boeing was contracted nearly a decade ago, it is yet to transport astronauts due to parachute and technical issues.

0

Animnapung buwan na walang sahod ang labindalawang opisyal mula sa Department of Education (DepEd) at Department of Budget and Management (DBM), matapos silang suspendihin ng Office of the Ombudsman.

Kremlin denies involvement in plane crash killing Russian mercenary leader Prigozhin

0

The Kremlin has rejected accusations of being responsible for a plane crash that is believed to have caused the death of Yevgeny Prigozhin, a notable mercenary leader. Prigozhin’s fierce fighters were active in Ukraine, Africa, and Syria, and were recently involved in a mutiny in Russia. President Vladimir Putin paid tribute to Prigozhin, while suspicions of the Kremlin’s role in the crash circulated, hinting at a possible assassination.

A preliminary U.S. intelligence evaluation indicated that the plane was intentionally downed, aligning with a pattern of Putin suppressing critics. However, no specifics were provided regarding the explosion’s cause, presumed to be linked to the mutiny challenging Putin’s rule.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov dismissed the allegations, citing rampant speculation and asserting the claims were baseless. The Kremlin awaits official conclusions regarding Prigozhin’s demise.

The potential death of Prigozhin could destabilize his Wagner Group of mercenaries, known for their involvement in conflicts like Ukraine’s battle for Bakhmut and roles in Africa and Syria. The group’s future remains uncertain.

The crashed jet carried Prigozhin and other Wagner members. Reports indicated his death, though official confirmation is lacking. President Joe Biden expressed his belief that Putin might be involved, drawing criticism from Russian officials.

The crash’s circumstances involving high-ranking Wagner members on the same flight remain unclear. Investigations are ongoing, while Putin acknowledged the passengers’ contributions to Ukraine’s conflict.

Prigozhin’s outspoken nature and criticism of Russian military strategies had raised tensions, leading to a mutiny in June. After a swift resolution, reports suggest Wagner fighters fled Belarus.

Memorials near Wagner offices have appeared in several cities after the crash, reflecting the impact of Prigozhin’s presumed death on his organization.

Distribusyon ng PhilSys ID tatapusin ng PH gov’t ngayong taon

0
