IMUS CITY, Cavite. Patay agad ang isang hinihinalang miyembro ng “Akyat-Bahay Gang” at arestado ang isa pa matapos nilang pasukin angbahay ng isang aktibong miyembro ng Philippine Navy, kaninang madaling araw sa Green Estate Subdivision, Brgy. Malagasang 1G, lungsod na ito.

Dead on the spot ang suspek na kilalang si Abraham Banawa na residente ng Block 2 Lot 6 Phase 2 Barcelona P2, Brgy. Buhay Na Tubig, Imus City, Cavite.

Arestado naman ang kasama ni Banawa na si Rochlem Maligaya, 37 anyos na residente ng Block 5 Lot 1 Annex B, Greengate Subdivision, Brgy. Malagasang 1G, Imus City, Cavite.

Ayon sa mga pahayag ni Navy officer Marvin Sapamat Celis sa pulisya, bandang 2:10 ng madaling araw, natutulog siya sa kanilang bahay nang biglang pasukin ng mga suspek ang kanyang bahay.

Nagdeklara ng holdap ang mga salarin at nagsimulang kolektahin ang mga gamit ng biktima. Gayunpaman, nang magkaroon ng pagkakataon si Celis, inatake niya si Banawa at nagbuno ang dalawa hanggang sa maagaw niya ang baril na hawak nito at pinutukan ito.

BINANGONAN, Rizal. Isang bagong silang na sanggol ang tinangay ng isang hindi kilalang babae na nagpanggap na nurse sa loob ng isang ospital sa bayang ito sa Rizal kamakalawa.

Ayon sa ulat ng Binangonan Municipal Police, naganap ang insidente bandang ala-1:30 ng hapon sa Margarito Duavit Hospital sa Brgy. Darangan. Nagpakilala umano ang babaeng suspek na naka-uniporme ng nurse sa ina ng sanggol at sa lola nito na si Joana Marie Jobillano. Sinabihan ng suspek ang dalawa na dalhin ang sanggol sa laboratoryo para sa newborn screening.

Sinundan ng lola ang utos ng suspek at dinala ang sanggol sa laboratoryo. Ngunit bago pa man makapasok sa loob ng laboratoryo, sinalubong umano sila ng suspek. Iniabot ng suspek ang isang newborn screening form sa lola at inutusan itong papirmahin ang ina. Matapos ito, kinuha ng suspek ang sanggol mula sa lola at sinabing sumunod na lamang sa kanila sa loob ng laboratoryo pagkatapos pirmahan ang form.

Nang pirmahan na ang form ng ina, dinala agad ito ng lola sa laboratoryo ngunit wala na ang nurse at ang sanggol sa loob. Agad nilang inireport ang pangyayari sa nurse station at guwardiya. Isinagawa ang inspeksyon ng CCTV footage at doon nakita na ang suspek ay nakasuot ng itim na jacket at may bitbit na sanggol sa kanyang mga braso habang lumalabas ng ospital.

Hindi pa nakikilala ang suspek na kasalukuyang tinutugis ng mga awtoridad. Inaasahan ang mababawi ng mga pulis si Baby Jobillano at maaaresto ang suspek sa lalong madaling panahon.

Samantala, patuloy pa ring iniimbestigahan ng mga awtoridad ang insidente upang makuha ang lahat ng kinakailangang impormasyon at mahuli ang salarin.

LONDON. A neonatal nurse working at a British hospital was declared guilty on Friday of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder six others during a year-long period of deception. She preyed on the vulnerabilities of premature and sick newborns, as well as their anxious parents.

After 22 days of deliberation, the jury at Manchester Crown Court convicted 33-year-old Lucy Letby of killing the infants in the neonatal unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital in northwest England between 2015 and 2016.

Lead prosecutor Pascale Jones stated, “Parents were exposed to her morbid curiosity and her fake compassion. Too many of them returned home to empty baby rooms. Many surviving children live with permanent consequences of her assaults upon their lives.”

Jones further emphasized that Letby’s actions constituted “a complete betrayal of the trust placed in her.”

Letby was accused of deliberately harming the newborn infants in various ways, including injecting air into their bloodstreams and administering air or milk into their stomachs through nasogastric tubes. She was also accused of poisoning infants by adding insulin to intravenous feeds and interfering with breathing tubes.

Families of the victims expressed gratitude towards the jurors who had to endure 145 days of “grueling” evidence. In a joint statement read outside the court, they also thanked medical experts, consultants, doctors, and nursing staff who provided testimony during the “extremely harrowing and distressing” trial.

A sentencing hearing was scheduled for Monday. The jury, consisting of seven women and four men, deliberated for 22 days before reaching the verdict. One juror was excused for personal reasons during deliberations, and the judge later allowed the remaining 11 jurors to reach a verdict with a majority agreement of 10 people instead of a unanimous decision.

Letby denied all the charges. She was found guilty of seven murders and seven charges of attempted murder relating to six children. She was acquitted of one charge of attempted murder, and the jury could not reach a verdict on several others.

Some of the verdicts were announced earlier in the month but were subject to a reporting ban until deliberations concluded. Letby had shown visible emotions during earlier verdicts and left the courtroom crying when found guilty of two counts of attempted murder.

Throughout the lengthy trial, which began in October, prosecutors alleged that Letby was a “constant malevolent presence” in the neonatal unit when the infants collapsed or died. The prosecution asserted that she harmed the babies in ways that left minimal evidence and convinced her colleagues that the incidents were normal.

Police initiated an investigation into the baby deaths at the hospital in May 2017. Letby was arrested multiple times before being charged in November 2020. Prosecutors highlighted a note found at her home in 2018 where she had written “I am evil, I did this,” which they described as a “literal confession.”

While Letby testified for 14 days, denying intentional harm, her defense lawyer portrayed her as a “hard-working, dedicated, and caring” nurse who loved her job. He argued that there was insufficient evidence to support the harmful acts alleged.

Letby’s lawyer also claimed that four senior doctors implicated her to divert attention from failings in the neonatal unit.

Letby sobbed during her testimony and defended the medical records she kept at home for some of the babies she cared for. Her lawyer characterized her notes as the anguished writings of a woman who had lost confidence in herself and blamed herself for the ward’s events.

Heto ang masakit: Kaduda-duda ang pamahalaan, maging ang pribadong sektor sa pangkalahatan, kung may paghihigpit ngang nagaganap.

“Madali po sigurong sabihing ‘wag tayong mag-aalala… Kung pakikinggan po natin ‘yung iba’t ibang (sektor), nasa krisis po sila… Hindi pa rin nila naranasan na magmura na ang pagkain, ni pamasahe, ni ‘yung kita ng mga jeepney driver natin… Hindi pa nila pakiramdam na protektado sila.” Ito naman ang patutsada ni Senadora Risa Hontiveros.

Tumaas ng 1,453% noong 2022 ang gastusin ng Tanggapan ng Pangulo sa pagbibyahe sa labas ng bansa, ayon sa Commission on Audit (COA). Tumataginting na P392 milyon iyon, mula sa nagdaang taon na P25 milyon.

Kung lalahatin, sa halip na patungkulan lamang ang tinutumbok na progresibong pagbubuwis, magandang pakinggan nang husto ni Senador Bato ang punto ni Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Arsenio Balisacan na siya ring National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Director-General. Para kasi sa matagal nang ekonomista sa pribadong sektor, lalo sa pampublikong sektor, at propesor na si Sec. Balisacan, ang pamahalaan daw ay dapat pagsumikapan ang pagpapabuti ng access sa mga pangunahing serbisyo na may mga tamang programang nakalatag (basa: nakaplano).

Aniya: “Income inequality in the country is quite high, and even more disturbing is the inequality in economic opportunities. I think we should be looking at that more closely.”

Hindi naman kailangang mangutang nang todo-todo kung babawasan lang ang korapsyon. Pati ba naman ang pinauusong confidential funds sa mga tanggapang hindi naman natural na binibigyan ng ganoong pondo sa kasaysayan ng badyet ng pamahalan, kasama rin sa depensa ni Senador Bato. Kaya sino ang hindi mag-aalala?

Minsan nadadaan din sa postura sa senado kung may laman ang sinasabi ng mga pagdinig, pero bakit patawa-tawa ang katulad niyang senador sa harap ng economic managers? May nakakatawa ba sa lumolobong utang pero patuloy na napupunta sa pangungurakot? Kung walang kurakot, bakit pa sasabihin ng mga ekonomista, hindi lang si Secretary Balisacan, na madaliin natin ang pagbibigay ng serbisyong panlipunan, pero talagang hirap na hirap makuha ang mga ito sa iba’t ibang panig ng mga mahihirap na komunidad.

Isa pang dagdag-punto rito: Huwag nawang utangin ng pamahalaan ang perang galing sa disadvantaged loans, kabilang ang mga galing sa Tsina. Teka. While an email sent to a representative for Spears remained unanswered, it was made evident that the divorce filing had occurred on Wednesday. However, details regarding the location of the case filing were not available in the court records of Los Angeles and Ventura counties.

The wedding between Spears and Asghari took place on June 9, 2022, at her residence in Thousand Oaks, California. The event was attended by celebrities like Selena Gomez, Drew Barrymore, Paris Hilton, and Madonna, and was seen as a significant moment in Spears’ life, marking her newfound independence after her court conservatorship ended only six months prior. The conservatorship had controlled her life for over 13 years.

Kinilala ang suspek na si Mark Anthony Clemente, isang delivery rider at residente ng San Antonio Street, Tondo, Maynila.

Ayon sa ulat ng pulisya, bandang 11:30 ng umaga ng kamakalawa, napansin ng ilang opisyal ng barangay ang suspek na naglalakad na may posas sa kamay. Agad nilang nilapitan ang suspek at dinala ito sa barangay hall upang imbestigahan. Kasabay nito ay tinawagan ang Imus Police na agad dumating sa lugar.

Sa kanilang pagsisiyasat, inamin ng suspek na siya ay tumakas mula sa kustodiya ng NBI. Ayon naman sa patotoo ni National Bureau of Investigation Senior Inspector Edwin T. Roxas ng NBI-IOD/Interpol, Quezon City, Metro Manila, may kasong syndicated estafa (Artikulo 315 in relation to PD 1689) ang suspek at dinakip sa bisa ng warrant of arrest.

NEW YORK. Oetzi the Iceman, a historical figure discovered decades ago within the Italian Alps’ icy terrain, is revealing new insights. Scientists have delved into his DNA to provide a more accurate portrayal of this ancient hunter.

According to a study published on Wednesday in the journal Cell Genomics, it has been established that Oetzi’s lineage primarily hails from farmers in present-day Turkey. Moreover, the study revealed that he had less hair on his head and darker skin than initially believed.

Oetzi, who lived over 5,000 years ago, was preserved in ice after meeting his demise from an arrow wound to his back. This “natural mummy” was discovered in 1991 by hikers, alongside some of his belongings including a copper axe, a longbow, and a bearskin hat. Oetzi’s remains are now showcased at the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology in Bolzano, Italy.

An earlier version of Oetzi’s genetic makeup was published in 2012. However, due to advancements in ancient DNA research, scientists opted to reevaluate the iceman’s genes. The DNA was extracted from Oetzi’s hip bone.

The updated genome, as elucidated by Johannes Krause, a geneticist from Germany’s Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, “offers deeper insights into the history of this mummy.” Andreas Keller from Germany’s Saarland University, who was involved in the previous version but not the current study, endorsed this sentiment.

The analysis of the new genome indicates that Oetzi’s appearance at around age 45 closely resembled how the mummy appears today: possessing darker skin and minimal hair. Albert Zink, head of the Institute for Mummy Studies at Eurac Research in Italy and one of the study’s authors, highlighted that prior assumptions about Oetzi’s light skin and hairiness were likely inaccurate, and his mummified form altered over time.

The genome data also unveiled an elevated predisposition to obesity and diabetes in Oetzi’s case.

Furthermore, Oetzi’s lineage suggests that he lived within a secluded population in the Alps. While modern-day Europeans usually possess a blend of genes from three distinct groups—Anatolian farmers, western hunter-gatherers, and eastern herders—Oetzi’s ancestry is notably different. An astonishing 92% of his genetic heritage can be traced back to the Anatolian farmers, with limited genetic intermingling from the other groups, as articulated by Albert Zink.

Kasalukuyan nasa pangangalaga ng Lucena City police ang dalawang suspek. Nakatakda silang humarap sa ang mga paratang ng paglabag sa RA 9165 o mas kilala bilang Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

“Patuloy ang pakikipag-ugnayan ng Quezon police sa mga komunidad upang mapigilan ang paglaganap ng mga ilegal na droga. Bawat tagumpay ng aming operasyon ay nagpapakita ng aming masusing kampanya para sa isang ligtas, mapayapa, at malinis na komunidad,” ayon kay Monte.
