Taumbayan ba ang dapat paghigpitan o ang mga lingkod-bayan?

Dapat maghigpit ng sinturon ang mga mahihirap. Kung kailangang higpitan ang sinturon, nanaisin at talaga namang gagawing gumastos nang kaunti kaysa dati dahil sa mas kaunti ang hawak na pera kaysa dati. Walang kwestiyon ang naturang kawikaan (idiom) sa mga mahihirap. “Ginagawa namin iyan, pero wala na rin kaming titipirin,” sabi pa nga ng mga hikahos. Papasok nang walang baon ang mga anak. Paglalakarin sila, hindi pasasakayin. Doon naman sa mga “may ititipid pa”, sa singkwenta pesos (P50) na baon ay kasama na ang pagkain at pamasahe na kalimitan ay nasa P20 balikan, basta sasabihin lang sa dyip, “Bayad po, estudyante.”

“Madali po sigurong sabihing ‘wag tayong mag-aalala… Kung pakikinggan po natin ‘yung iba’t ibang (sektor), nasa krisis po sila… Hindi pa rin nila naranasan na magmura na ang pagkain, ni pamasahe, ni ‘yung kita ng mga jeepney driver natin… Hindi pa nila pakiramdam na protektado sila.” Ito naman ang patutsada ni Senadora Risa Hontiveros.

Tumaas ng 1,453% noong 2022 ang gastusin ng Tanggapan ng Pangulo sa pagbibyahe sa labas ng bansa, ayon sa Commission on Audit (COA). Tumataginting na P392 milyon iyon, mula sa nagdaang taon na P25 milyon.

Kung lalahatin, sa halip na patungkulan lamang ang tinutumbok na progresibong pagbubuwis, magandang pakinggan nang husto ni Senador Bato ang punto ni Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Arsenio Balisacan na siya ring National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Director-General. Para kasi sa matagal nang ekonomista sa pribadong sektor, lalo sa pampublikong sektor, at propesor na si Sec. Balisacan, ang pamahalaan daw ay dapat pagsumikapan ang pagpapabuti ng access sa mga pangunahing serbisyo na may mga tamang programang nakalatag (basa: nakaplano).

Aniya: “Income inequality in the country is quite high, and even more disturbing is the inequality in economic opportunities. I think we should be looking at that more closely.”

Hindi naman kailangang mangutang nang todo-todo kung babawasan lang ang korapsyon. Pati ba naman ang pinauusong confidential funds sa mga tanggapang hindi naman natural na binibigyan ng ganoong pondo sa kasaysayan ng badyet ng pamahalan, kasama rin sa depensa ni Senador Bato. Kaya sino ang hindi mag-aalala?

Minsan nadadaan din sa postura sa senado kung may laman ang sinasabi ng mga pagdinig, pero bakit patawa-tawa ang katulad niyang senador sa harap ng economic managers? May nakakatawa ba sa lumolobong utang pero patuloy na napupunta sa pangungurakot? Kung walang kurakot, bakit pa sasabihin ng mga ekonomista, hindi lang si Secretary Balisacan, na madaliin natin ang pagbibigay ng serbisyong panlipunan, pero talagang hirap na hirap makuha ang mga ito sa iba’t ibang panig ng mga mahihirap na komunidad.

Isa pang dagdag-punto rito: Huwag nawang utangin ng pamahalaan ang perang galing sa disadvantaged loans, kabilang ang mga galing sa Tsina. Teka. “Lubos naming pinasasalamatan ang DTI sa kanilang patuloy na pagsuporta at pagpapalakas sa mga lokal na produkto at maliliit na negosyo, partikular na ang mga micro, small, at medium enterprises (MSMEs),” ayon kay Hernandez.

Ipinakita ng okasyong ito ang dedikasyon ng pamahalaang lokal at DTI na palakasin ang sektor ng MSMEs sa pamamagitan ng pagtutulungan para sa pagsulong ng lokal na ekonomiya at pagpapalakas ng mga produktong gawang-Laguna.

This confirmation came shortly after various sources, including TMZ and People magazine, reported that the couple had decided to separate. While an email sent to a representative for Spears remained unanswered, it was made evident that the divorce filing had occurred on Wednesday. However, details regarding the location of the case filing were not available in the court records of Los Angeles and Ventura counties.

The wedding between Spears and Asghari took place on June 9, 2022, at her residence in Thousand Oaks, California. The event was attended by celebrities like Selena Gomez, Drew Barrymore, Paris Hilton, and Madonna, and was seen as a significant moment in Spears’ life, marking her newfound independence after her court conservatorship ended only six months prior. The conservatorship had controlled her life for over 13 years.

Asghari, a model and actor, first crossed paths with the pop superstar when he appeared in the music video for her song “Slumber Party” in 2016. Spears had expressed her desire to marry Asghari, considering it one of the reasons she sought to end the restrictive conservatorship, which she believed was inhibiting her personal choices. IMUS CITY, Cavite. Naaresto ang isang 23-anyos na lalaki na tumakas mula sa kulungan ng National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) sa Maynila habang naglalakad at nakaposas sa Brgy. Malagasang, Imus City, Cavite.

Kinilala ang suspek na si Mark Anthony Clemente, isang delivery rider at residente ng San Antonio Street, Tondo, Maynila.

Ayon sa ulat ng pulisya, bandang 11:30 ng umaga ng kamakalawa, napansin ng ilang opisyal ng barangay ang suspek na naglalakad na may posas sa kamay. Agad nilang nilapitan ang suspek at dinala ito sa barangay hall upang imbestigahan. Kasabay nito ay tinawagan ang Imus Police na agad dumating sa lugar.

Sa kanilang pagsisiyasat, inamin ng suspek na siya ay tumakas mula sa kustodiya ng NBI. Ayon naman sa patotoo ni National Bureau of Investigation Senior Inspector Edwin T. Roxas ng NBI-IOD/Interpol, Quezon City, Metro Manila, may kasong syndicated estafa (Artikulo 315 in relation to PD 1689) ang suspek at dinakip sa bisa ng warrant of arrest.

Fresh analysis of Oetzi the Iceman’s DNA traces his Origins to modern-day Turkey

NEW YORK. Oetzi the Iceman, a historical figure discovered decades ago within the Italian Alps’ icy terrain, is revealing new insights. Scientists have delved into his DNA to provide a more accurate portrayal of this ancient hunter.

According to a study published on Wednesday in the journal Cell Genomics, it has been established that Oetzi’s lineage primarily hails from farmers in present-day Turkey. Moreover, the study revealed that he had less hair on his head and darker skin than initially believed.

Oetzi, who lived over 5,000 years ago, was preserved in ice after meeting his demise from an arrow wound to his back. This “natural mummy” was discovered in 1991 by hikers, alongside some of his belongings including a copper axe, a longbow, and a bearskin hat. Oetzi’s remains are now showcased at the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology in Bolzano, Italy.

An earlier version of Oetzi’s genetic makeup was published in 2012. However, due to advancements in ancient DNA research, scientists opted to reevaluate the iceman’s genes. The DNA was extracted from Oetzi’s hip bone.

The updated genome, as elucidated by Johannes Krause, a geneticist from Germany’s Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, “offers deeper insights into the history of this mummy.” Andreas Keller from Germany’s Saarland University, who was involved in the previous version but not the current study, endorsed this sentiment.

The analysis of the new genome indicates that Oetzi’s appearance at around age 45 closely resembled how the mummy appears today: possessing darker skin and minimal hair. Albert Zink, head of the Institute for Mummy Studies at Eurac Research in Italy and one of the study’s authors, highlighted that prior assumptions about Oetzi’s light skin and hairiness were likely inaccurate, and his mummified form altered over time.

The genome data also unveiled an elevated predisposition to obesity and diabetes in Oetzi’s case.

Furthermore, Oetzi’s lineage suggests that he lived within a secluded population in the Alps. While modern-day Europeans usually possess a blend of genes from three distinct groups—Anatolian farmers, western hunter-gatherers, and eastern herders—Oetzi’s ancestry is notably different. An astonishing 92% of his genetic heritage can be traced back to the Anatolian farmers, with limited genetic intermingling from the other groups, as articulated by Albert Zink.

Sa isang post sa Facebook, binigyang diin ng vice mayor na ang mga tinutukoy na ordinansa na hindi pinirmahan ay hindi dumaan sa legal na proseso. Pinagtibay ang mga ito sa labas ng session hall ng sanggunian ng hindi siya kasama bilang vice mayor gamit ang secretariat na binuo ng alkalde, ayon sa kanya.

Germany’s Cabinet is poised to greenlight a groundbreaking plan to relax regulations surrounding cannabis possession and sale, positioning the nation as a leader in the European Union’s push toward more lenient drug policies. The move could see the decriminalization of limited cannabis possession and the establishment of “cannabis clubs” where members can purchase the substance for recreational purposes.

The anticipated approval from the German government, expected on Wednesday, marks the initial phase of a two-part strategy that will require parliamentary endorsement. Although not as comprehensive as initially envisioned, this development signifies a significant stride for Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s progressive coalition.

Health Minister Karl Lauterbach is scheduled to unveil the finalized legislation on Wednesday, revealing plans to legalize the possession of up to 25 grams (approximately 1 ounce) of cannabis for recreational usage. The proposed legislation also allows individuals to cultivate up to three cannabis plants for personal use.

Under the proposed framework, individuals aged 18 and above would be eligible to join nonprofit “cannabis clubs,” each accommodating a maximum of 500 members. These clubs would be authorized to cultivate cannabis for their members’ personal consumption. Daily cannabis purchases would be capped at 25 grams, with a monthly limit of 50 grams for individuals, except those under 21 who would have a 30-gram monthly limit. Membership in multiple clubs would be prohibited, and membership fees would be tiered based on usage.

Government officials are optimistic that the plan will counteract the black market, safeguard consumers against potentially tainted products, and mitigate drug-related criminal activity. Health Minister Lauterbach emphasized, “We are not creating a problem, we are trying to solve a problem.”

However, the center-right opposition voices concerns, contending that the government’s drive to legalize the drug ignores both European legal hurdles and expert viewpoints. A group representing German judges warns that the proposal might strain the judicial system further and inadvertently fuel demand for illegal cannabis. Even some advocates for legalization are discontent, arguing that the legislation imposes excessive regulation and continues to stigmatize cannabis users.

The government’s approach falls short of its earlier, more ambitious plan, which aimed to allow cannabis sales to adults across the country through licensed outlets. This scaled-back approach emerged after negotiations with the European Commission. Minister Lauterbach underscored that Germany aims to set a model for Europe and avoid replicating the Dutch approach, which combines decriminalization with minimal market control.

Contrasting approaches to cannabis policies are observable across Europe. Switzerland permitted a pilot project in Basel last year, allowing a limited number of individuals to purchase cannabis from pharmacies for recreational purposes. Similarly, the Czech Republic has been devising a plan akin to Germany’s, endorsing sales and recreational cannabis use, though the framework isn’t yet finalized.

Despite such developments, France remains steadfast in maintaining its stringent cannabis regulations, while Denmark’s bid to legalize cannabis was thwarted by its parliament. Meanwhile, the Netherlands, known for its “coffeeshops,” has embarked on an experiment to explore the controlled legal supply of cannabis to these establishments and its potential implications.

Germany’s anticipated move could set a precedent for the region, potentially influencing other nations to reconsider their cannabis policies in pursuit of safer and more regulated alternatives.

LOS ANGELES. Renowned Irish boy band Westlife is about to make history by embarking on their inaugural North American tour after over two decades in the music scene.

Westlife boasts an impressive track record, having sold over 55 million records, achieved 36 No. 1 albums, and amassed more than one billion YouTube streams. Now, the group is preparing to grace several major cities in the United States and Canada, coinciding with St. Patrick’s Day festivities next year.

Although the tour may be brief, its significance cannot be understated. Commencing on Thursday, March 13, at Toronto’s Meridian Hall, Westlife will proceed to Boston’s MGM Music Hall at Fenway on March 14, the iconic Radio City Music Hall in New York City on March 16, and conclude the journey at the Chicago Theatre on March 18.

The forthcoming shows, as stated in a press release, will showcase the band’s extensive discography, encompassing their most popular hits such as “Swear It Again,” “Flying Without Wings,” “World Of Our Own,” “My Love,” “If I Let You Go,” and “Hello My Love.”

Westlife first emerged on the pop music scene during the late ’90s and early 2000s, a time dominated by the fervor for two other boy bands: Backstreet Boys, whom Westlife supported on tour, and NSYNC.
