“Our people are working on it as we speak and we hope to be able to get back on track with the registration anytime of the day,” ayon kay Manny Estrada, hepe ng regulatory development and strategy ng Globe Telecom Corporate Legal Services Group.

Merry Christmas to all!

In this contemporary time when misinformation, disinformation and “fake news” are the favorite tools of some writers both in the mainstream and social media to catch the attention of the public, it is comforting to see the local media practitioners of San Pablo getting along together in the traditional venue set by the 7 Lakes Press Corps fifteen years ago. Nothing much has changed except for the guests, vloggers and added members of the Press Corps.  Vlogging was not yet a fad when the Press Corps was conceived.

For two years, the group was constrained not to band together due to the pandemic hence, it is so refreshing to see old time friends exchanging pleasantries, drinking merrily, hugging each other and partaking of the sumptuous food courtesy of the friends of the local media through the indefatigable efforts of 7LPC President Sandy Belarmino with the assistance of the ever- helpful Ding Saraza.  It was also a delight seeing the “Walking Encyclopedia” of the Press Corps Ruben Taningco, who in his mid-80’s can still cope with the changing times. Of course, we appreciate the presence of Boyet “Talbos Tubo” Marcelo for deciding to come home from the USA to share his precious time and thoughts on many issues.

The matriarch of the Herald Group of Publication Nena E. Mallari, the publisher of Tutubi News Magazine Venus Penaflor, the Publisher of Laguna Courier Donnah C. Aranguren, editors, columnists, writers of various local papers and elected local officials headed by Mayor(a) Gem Castillo were there to grace the occasion. Her heartfelt rendition of the song “Paano Kita Mapasasalamatan” made Sandy and some of the guests misty eyed. It was a song not only meant for us but for her as well for showing us her kindness and generosity during this time of the year. Indeed, how can we ever thank her?

Vice Governor Karen C. Agapay and Cong. Amben Amante sent gifts to be raffled to the group but like the usual practice of the Press Corps, it was simply given to those who needed it the most. This unique practice made us totally different from the rest – no buts, no ifs, no qualms, a sincere show of empathy and affection.  This is how the members of the 7LPC treat each other.  We may be in disagreement sometimes pertaining to local and national issues but we always agree to disagree.  That is the essence of press freedom in a democracy.

As the year draws to an end, we wish to thank all the members of the 7LPC and all those who participated in the revelry like the CIO, Tourism Office, Sangguniang Panlungsod and the Office of the City Administrator for making the affair a success. “Although it’s been said many times, many ways, MERRY CHRISTMAS” to all of you!

“The first 15 days starting December 27 is a test period. This means that registrations during this period are all valid, but we are already anticipating that there could be some difficulties because this process is new to both the subscribers and the PTEs. During this 15-day test period, the PTEs will be able to assess what they need to improve on to make the registration process more efficient and easier for subscribers,” ayon sa pahayag ni Lamentillo.

“DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy wants the SIM registration to be done as soon as possible within 180 days, and he wants to ensure that the process will be as seamless as possible. That is why we launched a 24/7 complaint center so that concerns can be reported immediately and acted upon promptly,” ayon sa kanya.

(PNA)

Body aches and pains can be cured by dentist

Pain is a signal that something is wrong with one or some parts of the body. To relieve the pain, medicine is taken.

If the pain persists, however, the culprit may be a dysfunction in the jaw. In this case, a dentist may hold the cure for the pain.

In medical parlance, this condition is called the Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Dysfunction, an affliction caused by stress on the temporomandibular joint found in front of the ear. It is mainly a result of malocclusion, or the improper coming maladjustment in the jaw creates a great deal of strain in the area.

Pain may be felt at first in the teeth or jaw, but it can radiate to the head and the nose, giving rise to such chronic complaints as headaches, sinusitis, vertigo, stiff neck and ringing in the ears.

In several instances, pain is felt all the way down the spine, as in cases of lower back pain or scoliosis. The worst part is that so much medication can relieve it.

Recent research has shown, however, that the cure lies in TMJ treatment, which has been helping the United States and Europe.

In the Philippines Dr. Lolita Flores-Fandialan pioneered in the study of this type of treatment.

“A lot of patients come to us severely distraught because of the suffering they’ve been going through for years. They have been to many doctors, including EENTs, neurologists and even psychiatrists, but TMJ dysfunction is outside their working field. An X-ray of the patient’s head would always show a misaligned jaw that pushes against the bones and nerves of the neck and spine.” she says.

The best doctor to treat this affliction is a”TMJ specialist.” says Fandialan, who still teaches dentists all over the Philippines regarding Craniocervical Craniosacral TMJ Course together with Dr. Cecil Muer-Samiano and Dr. Jeffrey Montoya Sumague.

The orthopedic imbalance has also resulted in a misaligned body; the shoulders, breasts and hips are not balanced.

The usual complaint, however, is severe, unexplainable headaches. Did you know that headaches are mainly caused by muscular contraction brought about by depression, anxiety and other psychological stresses? A mere two percent are a result of disease or accidents.

Nine out of 10 patients seen at the TMJ Center suffer from these muscle contraction headaches aggravated by a maladjusted jaw, coupled with inappropriate release of stress such as bruxism, or the clenching of the teeth, and poor posture, consisting of orthopedic jaw adjustment and behavioral modification. Already TMJ treatment has been hailed as a through in headache research and cure.

Fandialan, Samiano and Sumague hope to make people more aware of TMJ Dysfunction, and share her research findings with medical and dental practitioners.

She lists several signs that will help determine if a person has TMJ Dysfunction. These are:

* Clicking, crunching or crackling sounds in your jaw whenever you chew, yawn or swallow.

* Muscle cramps and pain in the shoulder and neck.

* Earaches and toothaches despite the absence of infection.

* Frequent headaches that medication can’t cure

* Frequent dizzy spells and a feeling of light-headedness

“Not many people realize that the pain they feel could actually be caused by TMJ dysfunction.

I envision a future where doctors can better recognize the ailment, which more dentists can treat” Fandialan added.

Buti na lang, maraming bagong teknolohiya na pwedeng gamitin, na (Those from remote areas need this [free internet services], especially the children for their education. It’s good to know that there is advanced technology that) we’re taking full advantage of,” ayo kay Marcos na sinipi ng OPS.

(PNA)

Chocobutiog Food Products: Finding success in Cacao beans

0

Tableya was just a simple childhood favorite of Ms. Liz Butiog until one day they decided it to be their business. Aside from being delish, it also has health benefits. Growing up, her grandmother usually makes tableya for them on a traditional way. She ferments the cacao beans by herself and uses a stone grinder to powder it. Since then, pure tableya became one of her favorite foods.

In 2018, when Liz and her husband decided to do research on how to make quality tableya and established their business Chocobutiog Food Products, they made sure that every step on how to make a quality pure tableya was made with hard work and perseverance. They did not mind starting from scratch because they always believe that, through practice and determination, they will be able to produce quality tableya. Two years later, they secured DTI Business Name Certificate and registered the business under her husband’s name.

Making a tableya requires a certain temperature and for them to produce high quality tableya, they bring the cacao beans to a warmer place. Fermentation of cacao beans happens in her hometown (Bay, Laguna). Meanwhile, the roasting and molding of tableya happens in Nagcarlan, Laguna. Finding suppliers of cacao also became a problem for them but they found a way and joined the Cacao Farmer’s Association in Nagcarlan. In this way, it became easier for them to find raw materials. More so, they can also help local farmers. They also encourage them to continue producing fresh fruits and vegetables.

Liz and her husband dream of having a physical store that showcases products from cacao, including their own tableya and chocolate spread. Through DTI Negosyo Center Nagcarlan, they were able to participate in seminars and training, including the seminar on Proper Food Handling and Food Safety Awareness. They joined in different webinars to gain more knowledge especially on doing e-commerce. Just like any other businesses that were affected by Covid-19, they started doing e-commerce in March 2020 in order to reach a wider audience and make their products delivered nationwide.

Despite the pandemic, Liz and her husband did not give up and instead they continue to pursue their passion. Little they did know that their willpower to succeed will lead them into having expanded connections and expose them into a larger niche. They started to participate in different bazaars and trade fairs organized by DTI Laguna and other partner agencies. As a result, they were able to feature their products and gather attention aside from earning sales. More so, they strengthen their online presence and maintain an active account at Shopee Philippines and Instagram.

Their story is an example of what determination can do in one’s business. At present, they continue to explore how far they can go in marketing their products. They are making their dream of having a physical store into a reality by supplying products in one of the hubs operated under the One Town, One Product Program of DTI Laguna. In this way, Chocobutiog Food Products are displayed and showcased in a physical store. Liz firmly believes that determination indeed is one of their values in finding success in cacao beans. San Pablo City, Laguna.

“The Philippine Embassy in Washington DC advises Filipino communities on the massive winter storm to monitor the weather, undertake all necessary preparations, and heed the warnings of local officials,” ayon sa Embassy sa isang advisory kanina.
