Biñan City, Laguna. Arestado ang isang high value individual at ang kanyang kasabwat sa isang drug buy-bust operation na isinagawa ng mga tauhan ng Biñan City Police Station (CPS) kahapon.
Nakumpiska sa mga suspek ang dalawampu’t-anim na plastic sachets na naglalaman ng hinihinalang shabu na may timbang na 165 gramo at may tinatayang nagkakahalaga ng Php 1,072,500.00.
Kinilala ni Police Colonel Randy Glenn G Silvio, Acting Provincial Director, Laguna PPO ang mga suspek na sila alyas Beverly (HVI) at Junjun, pawang mga residente ng Biñan City Laguna.
Ayon sa ulat ni Plt Col. Virgilio M. Jopia, hepe ng Biñan CPS, nagkasa ng isang anti-illegal drug buy bust operation ang kanilang Station Drug Enforcement Unite (SDEU) sa Brgy. Malaban, Biñan City, Laguna na nagresulta sa agarang pagkaaresto ng mga nabanggit na suspek matapos bumili ng droga sa kanila ang mga awtoridad na nagpanggap bilang poseur buyer kapalit ang buy-bust money.
Kasalukuyang nasa kustodiya ng Biñan CPS ang mga arestadong suspek habang ang mga nasamsam na ebidensya ay ipapadala sa Crime Laboratory para sa forensic examination.
NAkatakdang humarap ang mga suspek sa kasong paglabag sa R.A 9165 o “Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002”.
“Sa pagkahuli ng mga suspek na ito, gusto ko ipaabot sa mga kababayan natin na walang puwang dito sa buong lalawigan ng Laguna ang mga drug pusher na katulad nito. Makakaasa po kayo na hindi namin ititigil ang aming mga operasyon kontra ilegal na droga at maging sa mga iba pang ilegal na gawain upang matiyak natin ang kaayusan, katahimikan at siguridad ng ating mga mamamayan,” ayon kay Silvio.
Call it educational tourism or edu-tourism, but the fact remains that state universities and colleges’ overall mission on it is doomed to fail because of the “travel goals” of politicians. Private higher education institutions, for that matter, need to use their potential and stop following the practices of their counterparts in the countryside.
There is no doubt that we generally lack dynamic management and leadership skills simply because our local and national politicians use a huge sum of taxpayer pesos for their travel goals in America, Europe, and Asia. Just take a close look at university projects for edu-tourism, their health and environmental impacts if any, and you would instantly spot them on your own: Sayang.
Even short-term goals cannot be achieved, though educators have done and are doing their best enriching students with cultural and related experience by their educational travels. While the educators intensely provide high-quality curricular offerings in hospitality and tourism, Congress tolerates non-stop errors of judgment by some of its “honorable” members from its two chambers, whose horrible official travel expenses redound to benefits that are simply not great. It is the same Congress which does not have the balls or scruples to instigate high-level talks to make sure taxpayer money is spent wisely and judiciously in foreign trips of officials. “Juicylicious” funds and future support for political undertakings are going to happen should they keep mum on excessive foreign travel issues. Pundits note that Congress cannot see real threats to the public out of these secret deals made before and after the top officials travel abroad. Have we heard of a single congressional inquiry dissecting the budget rundowns of the official tours made in the last six months? Majority of congressmen and senators are a hit and miss in terms of exercising their check-and-balance power to override and reject extravagant ideas of going out of the country as their constituents keep on asking for basic social and health services to no avail.
We always hear university projects getting small budgets, while all we hear from our legislators and key government officials is that they triumph on their trips overseas. They trumpet billions and trillions of fresh investment “pledges,” but economic experts think otherwise. According to them, every nation-state pledge these days means nothing but an empty promise. You may even contemplate why these politicians allow these to happen; it is all because out of all these trips, they can successfully advance their art of PR.
But who are really going to invest in the Philippines and how ready are they to know that we are not ready for them? Neither for ourselves. On the bright side, educators and their institutions are focused on their educative mission, busying themselves more on the local edu-tourism, with many of them even extending their service to the service and agriculture sectors. Simply put, politicians’ “travel goals” must go away.

Batay sa bulletin kaninang alas-5 ng umaga, sinabi PAGASA na huling namataan ang LPA sa 140 km. silangan ng Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, at nananatiling maliit ang posibilidad na ito ay maging isang tropical cyclone.
Mga pag-ulan dulot ng northeast monsoon ang mararanasan sa Metro Manila, Cagayan Valley, nalalabing bahagi ng Calabarzon, at Aurora.
Gayunpaman, magdudulot ito ng kalat-kalat hanggang sa malawak na pag-ulan at pagkidlat-pagkulog sa Eastern at Central Visayas, at sa mga lalawigan ng Negros Occidental, Albay, Masbate, Sorsogon, at Catanduanes.

Ang festival na ito ay nakakuha ng citation mula sa Association of tourism Officers of the Philippines (ATOP) at Department of Tourism (DOT) bilang pinakamahusay na Tourism Event para sa Festival Category City Level para sa Calendar Year 2010-2011-2012-2013 (PIA) na naglagay San Pablo City, isang tourist destination.
Nakakuha na rin ng “Pearl Award” ang “Coconut Festival” noong 2013 bilang Hall of Famer sa 14th National Convention ng Department of Tourism (DOT)–Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines (ATOP) na ginanap sa Legazpi City, Albay.

Over the past two years, people on the remote island of Manicani in the Philippines have built their resilience against COVID-19, with the help of a civil society organization, local government units, local health care workers and WHO.
In the early days of the pandemic, it was challenging for the 3000 residents of Manicani Island in the Eastern Samar province to separate sound advice on COVID-19 vaccinations from misinformation. Even those who wanted to be vaccinated faced the cost and hassle of a 45-minute boat ride to the nearest vaccination centers. As a result, vaccine uptake was low.
Under WHO’s Civil Society Organisation (CSO) Initiative, WHO partnered with People In Need (PIN) Philippines, an international non-profit organization that works with vulnerable and hard-to-reach groups to provide humanitarian and development assistance, to better understand these barriers to vaccination and how to overcome them.
The CSO Initiative was an accelerator project that aimed to strengthen civil society engagement in the response to COVID-19 at both the national and local levels. Through community-based interventions, WHO and its partners have worked to support some of the most vulnerable groups who are often left ‘unreached’ during health emergencies. In the Philippines, this initiative was also supported by the European Union.
With support from WHO, PIN led the COVID-19 response on the island and worked closely with village health workers, local leaders and the Department of Health, to promote vaccine confidence and improve awareness and action around COVID-19 guidelines.
The first step in understanding people’s reluctance to be vaccinated against COVID-19 was listening. The PIN team went house-to-house in Manicani’s four villages to understand people’s knowledge, perceptions, concerns and fears surrounding vaccination. To further understand and debunk these myths and concerns, the team organized meetings with residents of the island, local government units and health workers, who are trusted members of the community. Tailored and creative information, education and communication materials, translated into the local language, were also distributed and postered to help fill gaps in people’s knowledge, address rumors and provide science-based messaging.
These efforts resulted in a significant increase in vaccine uptake and reduction of COVID-19 cases via community transmission. Every resident in Manicani island was reached with information and vaccination rates almost tripled, with 79% of the island’s eligible population being vaccinated by March 2022. Overall, trust in health workers was crucial in keeping people safe and for the success of the project. “We were the first to get vaccinated because we are the frontliners so we served as examples to other people in our barangay [village] that nothing bad will happen if you will get vaccinated. Nahuli ng mga awtoridad ang isa pang big-time na shipment ng ilegal na droga na dinala sa pamamagitan ng courier service kasunod ng pagka aresto sa claimant ng isang pakete na naglalaman ng PHP89.5 million na halaga ng shabu sa Las Piñas City.
Sa isang pahayag kanina, sinabi ni National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Maj. Gen. Jonnel Estomo, na ang suspek na si Jolle Ann Cuer, 25, ay naaresto sa loob ng isang subdivision sa Brgy. Almanza Dos, Las Piñas City sa isinagawang controlled delivery operation ng PNP Drug Enforcement Group, Ninoy Aquino International Airport- Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG) at ang lokal na pulisya noong Miyerkules ng hapon.
Nasamsam sa operasyon ang 13.175 kilo ng shabu, 48 self-sealing pouch at isang mobile phone.
Batay sa impormasyong natanggap ng NAIA-IADITG, ang kontrabando ay ipinadala ng isang Micheal Olanrewaju mula sa Nigeria.
Ang mga nakumpiskang ebidensya ay agad na isinumite sa Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Laboratory Service para sa qualitative at quantitative examination samantalang ang naarestong suspek ay isinailalim sa drug test habang nakabinbin ang pagsasampa ng reklamo para sa paglabag sa Republic Act 9165 o Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Pinuri ni Estomo ang matagumpay na pagsasagawa ng operasyon at nagbabala na paiigtingin pa ang anti-illegal drug operations. (PNA)
Sinabi ni Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. na ang mga opisyal ng pulisya na nagsumite ng kanilang courtesy resignation ay sasailalim sa lifestyle check.
Sa pakikipag-usap sa mga mamamahayag noong Martes, sinabi ni Azurin na ang panukala ay bahagi ng imbestigasyon na isasagawa ng five-man committee na inatasang sumuri sa kanilang courtesy resignations at maglalabas ng rekomendasyon kay Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. kung tatanggihan o tatanggapin ang mga opisyal.
“As of now we need to ask the members of the committee about the other procedures to be undertaken, but definitely that would be part of the investigation or inquiry that will be conducted by the committee to assess and evaluate all third-level officers,” ayon kay Azurin.
Ang mga tauhan ng PNP ay sumasailalim sa taunang lifestyle check alinsunod sa Republic Act 3019 o ang “Anti-Graft and Corruption Practices”, at Republic Act 6713 o ang “Act Establishing a Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees.”
Samantala, sinabi ni PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo na nasa 70 porsyento na ng lahat ng police generals at colonels ang nagsumite na ng kanilang courtesy resignation.
Inaasahan niyang tataas pac ang bilang habang hinihintay nila ang mga opisyal na naka-deploy sa malalayong rehiyon sa bansa.
Sinabi ni Fajardo na sinusuri pa nila kung nagsumite na ng courtesy resignation ang 10 police officials na sinasabing sangkot sa illegal drug trade.
“Sa ngayon ay wala pa tayong information doon sa mga sinasabi at nababanggit ni Chief PNP na less than 10 na tina-target ng investigation kung kasama na sila doon sa more or less 70 percent at aalamin natin yan at magbibigay tayo ng update kapag nakakuha na tayo ng datos,” ayon kay Fajardo.
Samantala, inihayag naman ni National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Maj. Gen. Jonnel Estomo na lahat ng 76 third-level officers ay nagsumite ng kanilang courtesy resignation.
Pinangunahan ni Estomo ang paglagda ng courtesy resignation kasama ang mga third-level commissioned officers ng NCRPO gayundin ay sumailalim sila sa sorpresang drug test na nagresulta sa positibong feedback mula sa media, mamamayan at komunidad.
Iniutos din niya ang sorpresang drug test sa 30 station commander na may ranggong Lieutenant Colonel, 16 mula sa Quezon City Police District (QCDP) at 14 mula sa Manila Police District (MPD).
“The conduct of this drug test to the station commanders of QCPD and MPD is to show their subordinates that their officers are not involved in illegal drug use. As a matter of fact, it is on record that out of 72 full colonels and up who underwent drug test, all tested negative for illegal drugs,”dagdag niya. (PNA)
