Oculus Quest 2 Review

This is the last installment of this three-part series.

Virtual Reality (VR), an exciting piece of technology that is currently being ramped up in today’s technological climate. Virtual Reality allows us to experience multiple adventures and worlds that we could not otherwise experience for a variety of reasons.  With the human mind being one of the most curious things in the world, it will always try to seek and push the boundaries of what a piece of technology can do.  A lot of excitement currently revolves around VR that several companies have developed multiple VR headsets over Augmented Reality (AR).

At first, VR headsets were wire-bound devices and required high spec PCs.  As technology got better came the emergence of wireless VR Headsets.  The most popular one in the market right now is the Oculus Quest 2.  It is a very impressive piece of technology that allows one to experience virtual reality unencumbered by wires which makes it quite exciting, I might add.

Currently, Meta (formerly known as Facebook) and other tech companies are exploring other possible uses of VR other than for entertainment purposes.  Research is ongoing as far as developing more advance applications of VR including for medical purposes or possibilities of enhancing the ability to work from home.

The new reality of work from home caused by the pandemic is an area where adaptation of VR can help people communicate with coworkers and interact with them as if they are talking to each other face-to-face.  This idea has popped up with so many companies wanting to embrace this form of interaction to save office space and be assured of working safely as far as getting infected by viruses.

During my initial experience with VR, it felt kind of creepy talking to someone whom you know physically occupies a space far from you.  By wearing the Oculus Quest 2 Headset and trying several different head movements, you may be able to experience the ability to see the image or avatar of your officemate and be able to talk to them as if they are right next to you.  Now, that is pretty cool!

The third and final game I experienced in Oculus Quest 2 is the well=-known game of:

Resident Evil 4 VR

Now, this was the game that really piqued my interest in VR. I wondered how this legendary game Resident Evil4 is going to be translated into Virtual Reality.  I wasn’t sure how game play is going to be incorporated.  What kind of compromises were considered that may affect the overall experience of the game?

Resident Evil 4 VR is the entire base Resident Evil 4 game completely remade for a VR experience. You would have to walk through the environment, gathering materials and treasures to help you through the adventure. I am extremely glad to say that Resident Evil 4 VR was successfully translated into virtual reality.  It was done so well that it has now become my preferred way of playing the game. Playing it in VR made the game feel brand new even though I am familiar with the game.  VR really elevated the game to an entirely new experience.

The VR  iteration of Resident Evil4 incorporated what is called “Immersive Mode”.  This made the game much more realistic to fire guns.  It also allows you to reload the guns. Putting the game in Immersive Mode gives this new type of stress that I have never felt when playing a horror game and it makes it more enjoyable. The ability to physically reload and cock the gun raises the immersion.  The vast amount of VR Comfortability options are great because it allows people who experience VR motion sickness to feel more at ease.

So far, I am satisfied with my experience with the Oculus Quest 2 and has further solidified my confidence in VR. I can see this piece of technology to continue to grow and advance in the future. As more companies embrace the capabilities of VR, it has the potential to become an integral part of society. It may sound creepy at first but there are a ton of benefits that will help out people in the long run.  The possibilities are endless with VR. It still has a few bugs and glitches that need to be worked out, but the potential applications are endless.

I would highly recommend the Oculus Quest 2 as a great introduction to the world of VR and it is relatively inexpensive..

Change is enevitable

This pandemic has changed the course of events in our lives. For two years we are faced with so many challenges we never thought would happen to us – classes via zoom, work from home, long distance relationship, quarantine, successive vaccines, curfew and checkpoints even in far-flung barangays.  This new normal according to some is actually ‘abnormal’ but we ought to learn how to live with it otherwise we shall be left bungling in the dark.

In these trying times, the flexibility of Filipinos is tested to the max but like a chameleon, they easily adapt to the colors of the wind blowing upon them. We have seen them rise above the storm and other natural calamities like earthquakes, volcanic eruption, tsunami, even armed conflicts. They have lost lives, limbs and material wealth but they cried and wailed only for a while. They fight with strong faith in their hearts that God shall restore what they lost in whatever form – just like what happened to Job in the Scriptures.

There is nothing permanent in this world except CHANGE – change of heart; principles; habits; relationship; political party affiliation; etc.  That is part of life. Change is good because it helps us explore the depth, width and magnitude of our understanding about practically everything around us. It gives us time to pause for a while and ponder on what will happen next. It allows us to plan carefully for the future so we will not be caught barefooted and unprepared.

If we are going to look closely at the world today, we will find a lot of changes not only in its physical appearance but in the attitude and lifestyle of its people. In the olden days, there were no same sex marriages, no gender transformation, no alteration of skin color and facial appearance, no genetically modified organism. The ozone layer then was intact, the lakes and its tributaries were free from pollutants, the mountains were emerald-green and the forests were haven to wild animals.

Today is totally different.  The world has transformed radically. Many species of flora and fauna were brought to extinction by men’s greed and insatiable search for something beyond what is allowed by nature. And so, what happened?  In their exploration of the wild, they (un)wittingly picked up viruses from monkeys, bats, mosquitoes and rodents which when transmitted to humans cause serious illnesses like what is happening to the world today.

Change is inevitable.  No human power can stop it. It is there even before we are born.  It is regularly unfolding before our eyes and all we can do is take it as it is one day at a time.

“Listed in both the Hong Kong and Shanghai stock exchange, CREC JV ranked 35th on the Fortune Global 500 list and 5th among China’s top 500 enterprises in 2021,” ayon sa DOTr sa isang anunsyo kahapon.

“I wish the scenario come true the soonest and the project a smooth progress!” ayon pa rin sa Facebook post ni Huang.

“We are bolstering the aquaculture sector to close gaps in fish production and sustainably improve our catch,” dagdag pa niya.

“We are, as always, striking the crucial balance to ensure fish security among consumers while coming to the aid of our fish producers,” ayon kay Dar.

OPS nagbabala sa publiko vs fraudulent medical bonds, insurance

Nagbabala ang Office of the Presidential Spokesperson (OPS) nitong Lunes sa publiko laban sa mga scammer na nag-aalok ng hindi awtorisadong medical bond o medical insurance.

Sa isang press statement, sinabi ni Acting Presidential Spokesperson, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, na nakatanggap ang OPS ng mga ulat na “some unscrupulous individuals have been using the names of Nograles and Secretary Silvestre Bello III to solicit an unauthorized medical bond/medical insurance, in the amount of PHP6,000 as part of the recruitment and hiring procedure.”

Ginamit aniya ng mga scammer ang letterhead ng Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases at Department of Labor and Employment.

“The OPS wishes to alert everyone of this illegal solicitation scheme and urges the public to report such fraudulent activity to 8888 Citizens’ Complaint Center,” ayon sa kanya.

“It will increase the capability of the AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines), particularly the PN to defend the country’s extensive maritime borders,” ayon kay PN spokesperson Commander Benjo Negranza sa mensaheng ipinarating niya sa Philippine News Agency noong Lunes ng gabi.

The acquisition of the shore-based anti-ship missile project will boost the capability of the PN, particularly the PMC’s Coastal Defense Regiment as the end-user,” ayon sa kanya.

“It includes the delivery of three batteries, training for operators and maintainers as well as the necessary Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) package. Conceptualized as early as 2017, the Office of the President approved its inclusion in the Horizon 2 Priority Projects in 2020,” dagdag pa niya.
