Top five PC games you won’t regret buying

Welcome back to the continuation of my Top 10 Computer Games to Buy for the Holidays.  Let’s recap what we covered last week.

5. Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury. Release Date: February 12,2021. Platform: Nintendo Switch

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury is an enhanced port of the Wii U’s Super Mario 3D World game. It largely consists of the same content from the Wii U version but with an additional separate game called “Bowser’s Fury”.

What makes Super Mario 3D World unique from the different Mario games is that it contains a multiplayer aspect and allows you to play other characters other than Mario himself. You can also play as Luigi, Toad, and Princess Peach. There is also a secret 5th character when you reach a certain point of the game. With the multiplayer aspect, the game can be chaotic fun with family and friends as you try to compete for the high score and also help each other gather all the collectibles in the game. 

As for the Bowser’s Fury portion, it is a brand new adventure for Mario and this time accompanied by Bowser’s son, Bowser Jr. to help solve the mystery as to what caused Bowser to be covered and possessed by black goo. 

Get this game if you want to have family friendly multiplayer fun while also having a great amount of content worth your money

 4. Kena: Bridge of Spirits. Release Date: September 21,2021. Platforms: Playstation 4/ Playstation 5, PC

Kena: Bridge of Spirits is a game that looks like it came out of a Pixar film. The company behind the game, Ember Labs used to be an animation studio creating commercials for Coca-Cola, MLB and other companies as well. They used their knowledge on how to animate characters into a game and it turned into one of the most beautiful games out today. The whole time you think you are playing a Pixar film which is technologically impressive and the gameplay is pretty decent as well. Taking inspiration from games such as “The Legend of Zelda”, the game gives this vibe of adventure that you would like to partake in.

Get this game if you want to experience a Pixar-like adventure while playing games similar to the “The Legend of Zelda” series.

 3. Tales of Arise. Release Date: September 10,2021. Platforms: Playstation 4 / Playstation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC

Tales of Arise is the latest game in the “Tales of” series by Bandai Namco and it appears to be their most ambitious game in the series yet. It has some of the best dialogue, character interactions and gameplay. There is heavy emphasis on skillful gameplay and combos to maximize the damage dealt on enemies and also make the combat look flashy and action-packed to keep players engaged. The immersive character interaction segments make you feel attached to the characters, get to know what they like, hate, worries, fears and goals.

I highly recommend this game if you want an immersive story backed up with an action packed combat system.

2. Returnal. Release Date: April 30,2021. Platform: Playstation 5

Returnal is one of Playstation’s biggest hitters for the Playstation 5. The game follows Selene, an Astra scout who crash landed on a planet called Atropos. It is up to her to figure out how to call for help while exploring the planet’s secrets.

Returnal is roguelike type of videogame genre where you explore an area and when you die during that exploration, you lose everything and have to restart from the beginning. This is called a “run” and each “run” through the area will be randomized so that you will not have the same type of experience every single time you start a new “run”. Returnal is exactly that. 

The most difficult part of Returnal is not the combat itself but the game slowly implanting a “One more run” type of mentality. It will always make you want to return to explore the game further, find all the collectibles and weapons. This would have been at the top of my list but this game is not for everyone due to its difficulty and the immense amount of patience needed to get better at the game and to accept what the game is trying to teach you as well.

Get this game if you want a challenge and to experience a game that will always make you return for one more run.

 1. Metroid Dread. Release Date: October 8,2021. Platform: Nintendo Switch

I have previously reviewed this game on Tutubi but I would say that Metroid Dread is the top game you should buy on Black Friday that is worth your money. To summarize my review for Metroid Dread, it is a return for the Metroid series as it took nearly 20 years to get a sequel in the franchise. The game improved a lot by addressing issues from previous games. The game incorporated great ideas such as the E.M.M.I., indestructible robots that will chase Samus down and can almost instantly kill Samus once they get a hold of her. This game, just like Returnal, will keep you coming back for more to try and beat the game as fast as possible each time. There is a crazy speedrunning community for this game right now trying to compete how fast you can beat the game. The current world record is 1 hour and 22 minutes. With its expert level design and mechanics, players can figure out what is the best optimal route to get the next power-up or to the next boss.

The game is extremely enjoyable and it might not be as difficult as Returnal, I would say it is much more accessible than Returnal and does a much better job easing in new players with its mechanics and world.

Definitely get this game if you want something similar to Returnal but with better skill progression and world building.

Noong ako ay bata, kapag panahon ng lanzones ang tawag namin ay tag ginto. Ang mga bata at matanda noong panahon na iyon ay talagang maraming pera kahit wala silang sariling lansonisan.  Magsipag lang sila sa pamumulot ng mga laglag na bunga ng lanzones tuwing may magha harvest ay magkakapera na. Nakakatuwa at nakakagulat dahil pagkatapos ng anihan, ang mga ordinaryong magsasaka ay nakakabili television, electric fan, bagong kurtina, bagong damit, bagong sapatos at kung ano ano pang bagong kagamitang pampersonal o pantahanan. 

Ngunit paano ba natin aalagaan ang ating mga puno ng lanzones upang mamunga uli ng masagana sa susunod na taon? Paano natin mapapaganda ang kita? Sapagkat sigurado, kapag hindi naging mabunga ang mga ito ay liliit din ang kita ng ating mga magsasaka. 

Isa sa mga  epektibong paraan ay pruning. Ginagawa ito kada taon pagkatapos mag ani. Katulad ng ating mga tahanan, mahalaga na ang mga puno ay magkaroon ng bintana at pintuan upang pumasok ang hangin at makalikha ng magandang sirkulasyon at makatagos ang sapat na sikat ng araw upang hindi pamahayan ng mapaminsalang kulisap.

Sa halos lahat ng fruit bearing trees ay applicable ang pruning. Pwede ito sa mangga, abokado, rambutan, bayabas, tsiko at marami pang iba. Maging ang mga gulay at herbs gaya ng sili, basil, sage, thyme, rosemarie, kalabasa, kamatis at talong ay hiyang din sa pruning.

Sa pagpu pruning ng mga bungang kahoy, tinatanggal natin ang mga tuyong sanga o mga sangang hindi productive ng sa gayon ay ang mga productive na sanga ang makinabang sa sustansya na galing sa lupa.

Ang sistema ang pagpu pruning na aking ginagawa ay gumagamit ako ng clock reference system. Pinuputol ko ang mga sanga na nasa alas dose at itinitira ko ang mga sanga sa alas nuebe. Ang mga sanga na ito ang magbibigay ng masaganang bunga sa susunod na taon.

Tiyakin na ang mga puputulin na sanga ay 2 pulgada ang taba o mas maliit pa. Iwasang magputol ng malaking sanga sapagkat maaari itong magsanhi ng woodwound o sugat ng punong kahoy na pwedeng pagsimulan ng pagkabulok. Kung hindi maiiwasan na pumutol ng malaking sanga, tiyakin natin na papahiran natin ng sahing o pintura ang pinagputulan upang hindi pasukin ng tubig.

Sa tamang pruning, kahit isa lamang ang iyong puno ay nakakatiyak ka sa masagang ani sa susunod na season. Higit sa lahat, ang punong alaga sa pruning ay namumunga ng mas matamis na bunga na sabay sabay kung mahinog.

Sipag ang kailangan sa gawaing bukid na ito. Ngunit nararapat nating ugaliing gawin kada taon para sa magandang ani.

The demon was once an angel

The movie “Angels and Demons” based on the book written by Dan Brown with the same title reminds me of some people who perfectly portray to be living within the sphere of Christian life but their acts and deeds behind the shade reveals that their hearts and minds are as filthy as an old septic tank filled to the brim. It does not only stinks but also causes nausea and awful headaches.

Dealing with those kinds of people is quite a challenge.  One has to possess the heart of a lion, the eyes of an eagle and the meekness of a sheep rolled into one.  One must be adept and extra careful in reading their body language because behind their sweet talks and smiling faces are evil schemes.  They would make you believe that they care about you but the truth of the matter is they rejoice at your sufferings and enjoy adding insult to injury behind your back.  And they profess to be Christians!

A venerable friend from the USA would always remind his readers in all his writings and lectures to say “Yes to holiness, amen to love” probably because he wanted to inculcate in the minds of his readers that God is love as He is holy.  I have learned a lot of things from him that further enhanced my mental and emotional strength in the face of trials and I thank him for that.  

As a lonesome elderly woman travelling silently into the sunset, I already made peace with myself and with the Universe.  I don’t care anymore what other people say about me because I am perfectly aware of who I am. I learned that as you get older, you can feel the difference between people who love you and those who care only at their own convenience.  It’s just that I’m curious why some people have the nerve to use the name of the Lord in every situation while doing things contrary to Christian teachings. Or am I just being judgmental? 

In my seventy years of life working as a Court Legal Researcher for 34 years and almost 50 years as a freelance writer and editor, I have already seen a lot of people with varied family background and orientation.  I have interviewed convicts, GROs, professionals, politicians and people from the countryside in search of something to write that will be of human interest. I have seen tears in the eyes of victims of injustice.  I have heard the sound of success and failures. But it was just lately that I uncovered the hypocrisies and deception from people I know.  I can almost hear the voice of Christ saying unto the Pharisees, “Woe unto you hypocrites!  You shut the kingdom of heaven in men’s faces!”

The book of Dan Brown is an eye-opener to the nitty-gritty of the Christian life. It teaches that the love of God is not exclusive to the men of the cloth.  As a matter of fact, it shows how a supposed holy man is capable of doing heinous crimes purposely to attain his evil objectives. The contents of the said book are no different from those contained in the ‘Altar of Secrets’ that tackles about sex, politics and money in the Philippine Catholic Church.  I wrote it once and I will write it again, the demon was once an angel!

Pag tanggi ng ilang LGU na magbakuna ng hindi nila residente, idinadaing ng PEZA

Calamba City. Fully vaccinated na ang humigit kumulang na 113,392 empleyado at manggagawa sa The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA), ayon sa report ng nabanggit na economic zone sa Department of Health, CALABARZON Region 4A.

Nanguna mga ecozones ng PEZA sa Laguna at Cavite sa may pinakamaraming bilang ng nabakunahan na humigit kumulang na tig 45,000 na manggagawa.

Nasa 28,338 naman ang manggagawa sa Batangas ecozone na fully vaccinated na.  

Sa kabila ng mataas na vaccination rate ng mga manggagawa sa PEZA, nagpahayag sila ng pangamba hinggil sa mga report na may ilang local government unit (LGU) na tumatangging magbakuna sa mga manggagawang hindi residente sa kanilang bayan o lungsod. Hindi binanggit ng PEZA kung alin alin ang mga LGU ang ayaw magbakuna ng hindi nila residente.

Ayon sa kanila ay walang kapasidad ang mga economic zone na magbukas ng vaccination sites kung kaya ang mga kompanya ay napipilitang kumuha ng third-party agencies upang magsagawa ng pagbabakuna. Ito anila ay dagdag gastos sa mga pabrika sa PEZA.

Kabilang din anila sa mga isyung kanilang kinakaharap ang kakulangan sa episyenteng koordinasyon sa mga LGU upang matiyak na ang iskedyul ng bakuna ay hindi maka aabala sa oras ng trabaho at operasyon ng mga pabrika.

Mahalaga din, ayon sa kanila na magkaroon ng mahusay na koordinasyon sa pagitan ng mga LGU at ng mga ecozones sa mabilis na pagbibigay ng pahintulot sa mga vaccination site na mag operate.

Ngayong buwan ng Nobyembre, 21,923 kumpirmadong kaso ng Covid-19  ang naitala sa PEZA 1. Sa kasalukuyan ay 2,821 pa ang ginagamot sa mga isolation facilities at ang iba naman ay nasa home quarantine.  Sa kasamaang palad, 87 ang namatay dahil sa malubhang komplikasyon, batay sa report.

Mayor Amante, nanawagan sa mga magulang na pabakunahan ang mga anak na edad 12 hanggang 17.

San Pablo City, Laguna. Hinihikayat ni Mayor Loreto “Amben” Amante ang lahat ng magulang sa lungsod na ito na pabakunahan ang kanilang mga anak na 12 hanggang 17 taong gulang matapos simulan dito ang pediatric vaccination program kamakailan.

“Ito na po ang panahon para magpabakuna, huwag po nating palampasin ang pagkakataong ito dahil we have enough vaccines sa ating siyudad. Kitang-kita naman natin ang pagluluwag ng ating ekonomiya so kinakailangan na bawat San Pableño ay tumulong po tayo sa pamamagitan ng pagbabakuna dahil mahirap yung nag luluwag ang ekonomiya tapos hindi naman tayo bakunado,” ang paliwanag ni Amante.

Ayon kay Amante, nais niyang makaranas ng tunay na maligayang Pasko ang kanyang mamamayan ngayong taon. Humigit kumulang na 33,000 ang populasyon ng mga menor de edad sa nabanggit na lungsod na sisikaping mabakunahan bago sumapit ang Pasko, ayon sa kanya.

Ang San Pablo City ang kauna unahan sa Laguna na nagsimula ng pediatric vaccination pilot run para sa A3 sa San Pablo General Hospital (SPGH), ayon sa report ng Department of Health (DOH).

Pinili ng DOH ang SPGH upang anila ay mapamahalaan ang mga posibilidad ng serious adverse reactions ng bakuna. “Kailangang nating maging maingat sa pagpapatupad ng malawakang pagbabakuna sa mga bata upang mapangalagaan ang kanilang kalusugan. We will be monitoring these vaccinated children to detect adverse events following immunization to ensure their safety,” ayon sa paliwanag ni DOH Regional Director Eduardo C. Janairo.

Pfizer at  Moderna lamang ang maaaring pagpilian ng mga magulang sapagkat ang mga brand na ito lamang ang pinayagan ng Philippine Food and Drug Administration para sa edad 12 hanggang 17, ayon pa rin sa DOH Region 4A.

Binigyang diin din ng nabanggit na ahensya na ang mga batang nasa kategorya ng A3 o may comorbidities ay nanganganib sa malalang Covid-19. Ito anila ang mga batang ito may medical complexity, genetic conditions, neurologic conditions, tuberculosis, hepatobiliary diseases, cardiovascular diseases, chronic respiratory diseases, renal disorders, immunocompromised state due to disease or treatment, metabolic/ endocrine disease, obesity, o human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection.

Nagpapaalala din ang DOH Region 4A na kailangan ay kasama ng menor de edad ang kanilang magulang o guardian sa mga vaccination site. Importante din ayon kay Janairo na magdala ng medical certificate mula sa doktor na nagpatotoo sa comorbidity ng batang babakunahan.

Punong-abala ang Batangas State University sa pamamagitan ng Verde Island Passage Center for Oceanographic Research and Aquatic Life Sciences (VIP CORALS) sa gaganaping 9th National Symposium and Scientific Meeting of the PPSI sa Nobyembre 12-13, 2021; sa pakikipagtulungan sa Philippine Phycological Society, Inc. (PPSI).

Layunin ng gaganaping pulong na magbigay pugay kay national scientist Dr. Gavino Trono Jr., isang Pilipinong biologist na binansagang  “Father of Kappaphycus farming” sa ika 90 kaarawan nito.

Si Trono ay pinagkalooban ng ranggo na “Father of Kappaphycus farming” dahil sa kanyang kontribusyon sa pag aaral ng tropical marine phycology na nakatuon sa seaweed diversity. Technical consultant siya sa  Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Aquaculture Seaweed Research and Development sa kasalukuyan at professor emeritus ng  University of the Philippines Marine Science Institute (UP MSI).

“The symposium will provide the ideal forum to stimulate ideas and establish collaborations as well as encourage and initiate discussions. As we journey towards our third decade in providing professional and scientific education, we aim to create a new engaging online experience with aspiring professionals by providing innovative insights and invaluable guidance and assistance from experts in the field of Phycology,” ayon kay Dr. Wilberto D. Monotillasa pangulo ng PPSI.

Dadalhin ng nakatakdang symposium ang temang “Phycology Under New Normal and Beyond” na tatampukan ng apat na international scientists bilang plenary speakers na sina Dr. Victoria Chraibi, Assistant Professor of Biological Science, Tarleton State University, USA; Dr. Roberta D’Archino, Marine Biologist – Coast and Oceans, National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA); Dr. Suzanne McGowan, Professor of Freshwater Science, Netherlands Institute of Ecology; at Dr. Joel Cuello, Professor of Biosystems Engineering, University of Arizona, USA.

Itatampok din ang oral and poster sessions mula sa sektor ng professional at estudyante na magtatanghal ng malawak na research findings na may kinalaman sa phycology, ayon kay PPSI President Dr. Wilberto D. Monotilla.

Tagaytay City, 100% bakunado na

Patuloy na bumabagsak ang average daily attack rate ng Covid-19 sa buong bansa. Ang average number ng infections na inireport kada araw sa loob ng nagdaang tatlong linggo ay mahigit na 5,400 na lamang o 26% na mababa kumpara noong kasagsagan nito.

Nasa 2,276 infections na lamang kada araw ang ang bilang ng kabuuang kaso. Ito ay 11% na kabawasan sa pinakamataas na daily average report noong Setyembre 15.

Ayon pa rin sa Covid-19 tracker ng Reuters kaninang 8:49 ng umaga, 14 lamang ang nahawa kada isang daang libong Pilipino sa loob ng nagdaang pitong araw.

Samantala, ang Tagaytay City ay nakapag bakuna na ng 100% ng populasyon nito, ayon sa ulat mula sa Department of Health. Tinanghal na champion ang nabanggit na lungsod bakasyunan sa pinakamaraming nabakunahan sa buong CALABARZON.
