FAIRFIELD, California | November 1, 2026 | A 31-year-old pregnant woman was killed and six other people were wounded when gunfire erupted inside a Spirit Halloween store at Solano Town Center in Fairfield, California, on Friday night, October 30, shortly before Halloween.

Police identified the woman as Constance Hages. Her family informed investigators that she was pregnant at the time of her death, although authorities said the Solano County Coroner would confirm the information following an examination.

Fairfield police said officers responded to reports of gunfire at about 8:30 p.m. and found seven people with gunshot wounds. The six survivors, all male, ranged in age from 16 to 43. Three, aged 16, 19 and 32, were in critical condition, while a 23-year-old man remained hospitalized in critical but stable condition. Two others, aged 19 and 43, were treated and released.

Investigators described the incident as a targeted shooting involving one suspect inside the store. As of the latest available police updates on October 31, no arrest had been announced. Detectives were reviewing surveillance footage and other evidence and interviewing witnesses to identify the person responsible. The FBI’s Sacramento office deployed its Evidence Response Team to assist the local investigation.

The shooting prompted a major emergency response at the shopping center and disrupted Halloween plans in the community. Solano Town Center canceled its scheduled Mall-O-Ween trick-or-treating event following the attack. The mall said it would remain open, while the Spirit Halloween store was to stay closed as authorities continued their investigation.

Spirit Halloween is a seasonal retailer specializing in costumes, decorations and Halloween merchandise. The company traces its beginnings to 1983, when founder Joe Marver opened its first store in Castro Valley, California. It later expanded into a major seasonal retail chain, operating more than 1,500 temporary locations across North America, according to the company.

Fairfield police urged anyone with information about the shooting to contact the department at 707-428-7600 or email 1030mall@fairfield.ca.gov.

The attack unfolded during a holiday traditionally associated with costumes, family activities and community celebrations. With Halloween festivities canceled at the mall, the shooting also cast a shadow over a weekend when many families were preparing to remember loved ones during All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day observances.
