BANGKOK — At least eight people were killed and 25 others injured after a train collision triggered a fire that engulfed a public bus in Thailand’s capital on Saturday, according to rescue officials and police.

Authorities said the incident in Bangkok involved a train, a bus, several cars, and motorcycles, leading to a chain-reaction crash that quickly escalated into a major fire. Emergency crews were deployed to the scene as flames spread through the bus and nearby vehicles.

Firefighters used water hoses to contain the blaze while rescue teams pulled injured passengers from the wreckage. Officials said the fire has since been brought under control, but emergency personnel continued operations at the site, including cooling hot spots, ventilating gas, and searching for additional victims.

Police said the cause of the collision remains under investigation. No further official determination has been released on whether mechanical failure, human error, or traffic conditions contributed to the crash.

Local authorities have not yet released a final breakdown of identities of the victims, while hospitals in Bangkok continue treating the injured.

Transport incidents involving road and rail intersections in Thailand have previously raised safety concerns, particularly in densely populated urban areas where vehicle congestion increases the risk of multi-vehicle collisions.
