I’m thinking about the national supply for rice because iniimport lahat ng Indonesia, nagsara ang Vietnam, India nagsara. We have to start importing already,” ayon sa kanya.

Adidas to release second batch of Yeezy Sneakers after parting ways with Kanye West

FRANKFURT, Germany. Adidas announced on Friday its plans to release a second batch of high-end Yeezy sneakers following its decision to cut ties with rapper Kanye West, previously known as Ye. The German sportswear brand aims to sell the unsold shoes while also supporting organizations fighting against antisemitism.

The online sale, scheduled to begin on Wednesday through Adidas smartphone apps and its website, comes after a previous set of sales in May. The available models will include the Yeezy Boost 350 V2, 500, and 700, as well as the Yeezy Slide and Foam RNR.

Adidas severed its association with Kanye West in October after he made antisemitic and offensive remarks online and in interviews. As a result, Adidas was left with 1.2 billion euros ($1.3 billion) worth of unsold Yeezys and sought a responsible approach to handle the surplus inventory.

Adidas CEO Bjørn Gulden stated in May that selling the popular sneakers and donating a portion of the profits would be the best solution to address the unsold inventory and make a positive impact. The company consulted with nongovernmental organizations and groups affected by Ye’s comments and actions.

A portion of the proceeds from the Yeezy shoe sales will be donated to the Anti-Defamation League and the Philonise & Keeta Floyd Institute for Social Change, an organization led by social justice advocate Philonise Floyd, the brother of George Floyd.

Shoes sold directly by Adidas in North America will feature blue square pins provided by Robert Kraft’s Foundation to Combat Anti-Semitism as a symbol of solidarity against antisemitism.

Adidas did not disclose the specific number of shoes to be released for sale or the exact amount to be donated. When asked about royalties for Kanye West from the sales, the company only stated that they would honor contractual obligations and enforce their rights without sharing further details.

On Monday, the company reported that the initial sale of Yeezy shoes had a positive impact on its preliminary second-quarter financial results and contributed to an improved outlook for the year. The projected revenue decline for the year was adjusted from high single digits to mid-single digits, resulting in an estimated operating loss of 450 million euros (over $494 million) instead of 700 million euros.

Adidas, which is set to announce its earnings for the first half of the year on Thursday, expressed confidence that future Yeezy sales would continue to boost its financial performance.

SAN PABLO CITY, Laguna.

WHO Launches “One Life, One Liver” Campaign on World Hepatitis Day

Geneva. On the occasion of World Hepatitis Day, the World Health Organization (WHO) is urging for the expansion of testing and treatment for viral hepatitis, warning that if current infection trends persist, the disease could claim more lives than malaria, tuberculosis, and HIV combined by 2040.

Hepatitis is a deadly disease, causing liver damage and cancer, and leading to over one million deaths each year. Among the five types of hepatitis infections, hepatitis B and C are responsible for the majority of the cases and fatalities. Although hepatitis C can be cured, only 21% of those infected are diagnosed, and a mere 13% receive curative treatment. As for chronic hepatitis B, only 10% of the affected population is diagnosed, and merely 2% receive life-saving medication.

Under the theme “One Life, One Liver,” WHO’s World Hepatitis Day campaign emphasizes the importance of safeguarding the liver against hepatitis to ensure a long and healthy life. Optimal liver health also has a positive impact on other vital organs such as the heart, brain, and kidneys, as they rely on the liver’s proper functioning.

Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General, stated, “Millions of people are living with undiagnosed and untreated hepatitis worldwide, even though we have better tools than ever to prevent, diagnose, and treat it. WHO remains committed to supporting countries in expanding the use of these tools, including increasingly cost-effective curative medication, to save lives and put an end to hepatitis.”

In its efforts to track countries’ progress towards hepatitis elimination by 2030, WHO will share new guidance. To reduce new infections and deaths from hepatitis B and C, countries must ensure access to treatment for all pregnant women living with hepatitis B, provide hepatitis B vaccines to newborns, diagnose 90% of people living with hepatitis B and/or C, and treat 80% of those diagnosed. They must also take measures to ensure optimal blood transfusion, safe injections, and harm reduction practices.

Vaccination, testing, and treatment play crucial roles in protecting the liver from hepatitis. The reduction of hepatitis B infections in children through vaccination is a vital intervention to limit overall viral hepatitis cases. Fortunately, the target for hepatitis B incidence is the only Sustainable Development Goals’ (SDG) health target met in 2020 and remains on track for 2030. However, some countries in Africa lack access to birth dose hepatitis B vaccines. Gavi’s recent restart of its Vaccine Investment Strategy 2018, which includes the birth dose hepatitis B vaccine, will revive newborn vaccination programs in west and central Africa, where mother-to-child hepatitis B transmission rates remain high.

WHO recommends that all pregnant women undergo testing for hepatitis B during their pregnancy to help eliminate mother-to-child transmission. Positive cases should receive treatment, and vaccines should be administered to their newborns. However, a new WHO report reveals that only 32 out of 64 countries with policies reported implementing activities to screen for and manage hepatitis B in antenatal clinics.

The report also shows that 80% of the 103 countries surveyed have policies for screening and managing hepatitis B in HIV clinics, with 65% doing the same for hepatitis C. Expanding hepatitis testing and treatment within HIV programs will protect people living with HIV from developing liver cirrhosis and liver cancer.

While treatment rates for hepatitis C had been increasing in the past, the growth in the number of people accessing curative treatment is now slowing down. WHO urges taking advantage of medication price reductions to accelerate progress in expanding treatment. A 12-week course of medication to cure hepatitis C now costs $60 in low-income countries, down from the original cost of over $90,000 when first introduced in high-income countries. Treatment for hepatitis B is available at less than $30 per year ($2.4 per month).

For individuals seeking to maintain liver health, WHO recommends hepatitis testing, treatment if diagnosed, and vaccination against hepatitis B. Additionally, reducing alcohol consumption, achieving a healthy weight, and managing diabetes or hypertension will also contribute to better liver health.

Founding Eagles member Randy Meisner, singer of ‘Take It to the Limit,’ passes away at 77

0

NEW YORK. Randy Meisner, a founding member of the Eagles and renowned singer known for his contributions to hits like “Take It Easy” and “The Best of My Love,” has passed away at the age of 77, as confirmed by the band on Thursday.

Meisner died on Wednesday night in Los Angeles due to complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, according to a statement from the Eagles. Over the years, he had faced various health issues and experienced personal tragedy in 2016 when his wife, Lana Rae Meisner, tragically died from an accidental self-inflicted gunshot. Furthermore, Randy Meisner had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and struggled with severe alcohol-related problems, as disclosed in court records and comments made during a 2015 hearing where a judge ordered him to receive constant medical care.

The Eagles’ statement expressed Meisner’s importance as an integral part of the band and his significant role in its early success. They particularly praised his impressive vocal range, which is evident in his signature ballad, “Take It to the Limit.”

Details regarding funeral arrangements have not been released yet.

The Eagles evolved their music from country rock to hard rock and enjoyed a streak of hit singles and albums throughout the following decade, starting with “Take It Easy” and continuing with “Desperado,” “Hotel California,” and “Life In the Fast Lane,” among others. Despite criticism from some quarters for being perceived as slick and superficial, the Eagles released two of the best-selling albums of all time, “Hotel California” and “Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975),” which were ranked by the Recording Industry Association of America as the No. 1 seller alongside Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,” with sales reaching 38 million.

The band had gone through various lineup changes over the years, with Meisner leaving after the 1976 release of “Hotel California.” His departure was instigated by an incident during a concert in Knoxville, Tennessee, in the summer of 1977, where disagreements with bandmate Glenn Frey led to Meisner’s decision to part ways. He was replaced by Timothy B. Schmit.

Although Meisner’s solo career did not match the immense success of the Eagles, he still enjoyed some hits with songs like “Hearts On Fire” and “Deep Inside My Heart.” He also contributed to records by artists such as Joe Walsh, James Taylor, and Dan Fogelberg. Despite leaving the band, Meisner did join the Eagles’ members past and present in 1998 for their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and performed “Take It Easy” and “Hotel California.”

Randy Meisner leaves behind a remarkable musical legacy, and his high harmonies are cherished by Eagles fans worldwide. His distinctive falsetto voice became an iconic element not only of the Eagles but also of the entire California sound.
